No. No. And no. (But, why breaking mirrors? Is that some kind of sport?)

Superstitions? Well, I think that crossing the road in front of a bus, may bring bad luck.
I have many superstitions like that one.

Yeah, I, too, try to not cross the street in front of speeding buses or barreling semis. And I have yet to figure out why anyone would want to break a mirror. If you don't like the looks of your puss, it's not the mirror's fault. As for walking under ladders, if you give it a moment's thought, you'd realize it's probably just a wee bit safer than stepping in front of that moving bus. But id I do do something like that, I abslutely will not toss some salt over my left (or right) shoulder. Waste not, want not.

One of the wonderful things about old fashioned crutches is that you always have a piece of wood handy when you need to knock on wood.

The new, up-to-date crutches are metal. They will support obese Americans but not the good will of dryads.

Sure you're a logical person but there's probably this one thing that you just don't do. What is it?

I'm not supersticous at all, and I don't believe in good or bad luck.

But I do like you're "bowing to Raven's" idea. I've always liked Ravens and Crows, and I think it would really weird my friends out if I did that Wink

It isnt a superstition COMPLETELY... but..
when i am walking outside, and I see a bird feather on the ground, I take note of wich direction it is facing ( north south etc..) because it is like a personal 'psychic' reading. Certain directions hold certain meanings and it is bad luck to ignore these small messages.
( yeah.. im kooky...) Laughing

I knock on wood, don't walk under ladders unless I have to... I broke a mirror when I was 17 and I still have bad luck but I don't count that. I've always had back luck..lol

I own a black cat and he crosses my path all the time...

Don't have a problem with the number 13...unless I have a bad day and it is the 13th.. then I will blame it on superstition..

I've opened an umbrella indoors when I was little... but I won't now!

Go here, there are a lot of superstitions Old Superstitions

Just an odd thought that occured to me. It can sometimes be heard to draw the line between superstition and cultural values.

Is bowing to mecca five times per day a superstition?

Thinking a bit more on it I suppose that a superstition is something in which consequences are ascribed to the action, cultural values are simply done because "that is the way things are done".

Thanks for the list crazy lady, it's very interesting.

Superstitions are attempts to control fate.

I won't light three smokes fom a single match and I knock on wood. I think it is more out of habit than the thought of any type of evil befalling me.

An interesting note on 13. In a lot of the older buildings in Chicago there is no 13th floor. The numbers on the elevator jump from 12 to 14.

Not only Chicago and not only older buildings. I lived in a high rise in Boston that I thought was a 25-story apartment building. Turned out it was only 24 stories as it had no 13th floor. The building was erected sometime in the 1970s. I know someone who has apartment 12-A in the buiding she lives in, near the Northeastern University campus. 12-A is next door to 12. There is no Apartment 13.

About 10 years ago, I checked into the Marriot Residence Inn in Oklahoma City. The suite they had reserved for me was 1313. The desk clerk was very solicitous and concerned that I'd be upset and want another suite instead. I told her I loved the number. One of the most pleasant guest suites I've ever occupied.

BTW, some hotels don't have room 666 either because of its connection to evil. See Book of Revelations.

MA, And I bet suite 1313 was hardly used. Another advantage to not be superstitious.
