Do you refuse to walk under ladders? Break mirrors? Whistle on stage?
Sure you're a logical person but there's probably this one thing that you just don't do. What is it?
Re: What superstitions won't you break?
Me personally?
I always bow to ravens I walk past, because they might be messengers to the gods.
I lie facing the room in bed if I want to think and facing the wall if I want to sleep.
I try to grant any wish people make nearby me, on the off chance that one day it will work.
....
What about you?
I'm really nonsuperstionormic but I always pick up random pennies for good luck.
I like your wish granting attempts and may try that one myself!
I routinely break some common superstitions - walking under ladders, hats on beds, opening umbrellas indoors. I worked in theater for a long time, though, so I don't whistle in theaters or name the Scottish play without wincing.
I do knock on wood a lot. Especially if anyone says something that's tempting fate like, "I've never needed a surge protector." Or "no one in my family has caught a cold all winter."
Force of habit, and tradition are waves too strong to swim against.
For the most part I don't let superstitions bother me, but the concern is always there at the back of my mind. ^^
I ignore all of them. My lucky number if anyone asks me is 13. I walk under ladders. I invite black cats to cross my path. Red sky in the morning means a wonderful day.
I NEVER put my keys on the table, old swedish rule, it'll bring BAD luck... That's my only hitch,
I think...
Masturbating 27 times a day. No matter the situation I have to squeeze one off at least 27 times a day. Call me crazy, but it is a must.
A lot of these things -- e.g. knocking on wood, not walking under ladders, not throwing your hat on a bed -- are so ingrained in some people (including me) that they can't really be called superstitions. They have become reflexes. You do it -- or don't do it -- not because you have any beliefs in the matter, but just because it's part of the societal norm of the society in which you were brought up. For example, I make it a point never to toss my hat on a bed. Why? I have no idea. My mom taught me that it's wrong, that's all. I think it's the same with a lot of so-called superstitions.
That my wife is the most beautiful woman in this world.
C. I. my friend that's not superstition, that's fact. Oh yes, and also the most patient.
Hmmm...
I totally believe "what goes around, comes around."
I think I am over superstition concern, but y'never know, I may hear about a new one I didn't know I followed.
gee. I seem to have wanted to extend the post.
But, no, I didn't.
I know what you mean, something to do with repeating yourself five times for instance.
I don't do superstition myself either, at least not that I'm aware of.
Geez, that's creepy. I don't think I have done exactly that before. I'll try to minimize it.
