Hello,
I am teaching myself latin and am having trouble with translating this
sentence:

Jane smells so bad

My guess is that it turns into:
Jane most bad smells
but my question is how to do the "most bad" part:

Jane malus? olet

The second question is on possession:
His horse brings it to us.
or,
The horse of his us it brings.
Is this okay?
equus huius nobis hunc fert.

Thanks for any help

(Note: the name Jane -- or Jean or any female version of John -- has a
Latin counterpart: Iohanna.)

As for "most bad", you want the adverb, not the adjective; thus, pessime.

His horse brings it to us.

Translate "his" with eius (masculine genetive singular pronoun).
Hunc means "this". Translate "it" with id (neuter accusative singuar
pronoun).

Hope this helps.

I'd recommend buying a good Latin-English/English-Latin dictionary such
as Cassell's.

Thanks for your help. I have a dictionary, and it has lots of words, my problem is my grammer book is thin and I'm still trying to find things in the book.

So you translated "most bad" as "worst". That makes sense.

So it would be
Jane smells so bad.
Iohanna pessime olet.

Thanks for the clarification on "Eius", I have the chart but it basically said the words meant the same as "hic" but not as strong. That made less than no sense to me, so I ignored it. Smile

Anyway,
His horse brings it to us
becomes
Equus eius nobis id fert.
Right?

I have one more question. If I wanted to say

"My horse brings it to us. "

would that be:

Equus eius nobis id fert

also? Or would I use huius:

Equus huius nobis id fert

because it is closer to me?

Thanks,
-cathy
