I agree.
Children see things that are familiar to them on food boxes and want it.
In the grocery stores, the sugary cereals and unhealthy foods are at KIDS eye-level so that is what THEY see and what THEY want.
Parents are fooled into thinking that ads like " Frosted flakes are great," that say a bowl of cereal , orange juice and toast are a good breakfast.
That one bowl of cereal contains 20+ grams of sugar wich equates to 3 tablespoons. The amount of fat is 8 or 9 grams per serving, the milk that is in the cereal breaks down in the body much like sugar. The white toast that is usually served has bleached processed wheat which holds little no none of the natural minerals wheat has and is "fortified" wich means CHEMICALLY enhanced with so called vitamins. Orange juice that is typically served at breakfast is concentrated juice with added sugar. Concentrated orange juice can contain juice from any numbres of countries and any number of diffrent legal regualtions to growing conditions etc.. On top of that, orange juice is high in calories and high in natural sugars.
All in all, the box cereal, white toast and orange juice breakfast most peopl serve thier child is basically sending them off with Sugar, sugar, sugar and more sugar.
But.... that is a healthy breakfast!!! ( so says the media and some people) But, then, people wonder why kids and adults alike are so fat?
HHMMM!!!

Kids are so fat because too many parents (not all...I know there are some wonderful parents on this site!!) :

a) give them food to go away or behave. "be good, you get a cookie"

b) don't shoo their kids outside when it's nice. My mom was forever pushing me out the door to go play.

c) let their kids sit in front of the tv with a giant bowl of popcorn every night. for hours.

d) are in a hurry and give them "fast food" for lunch and snacks and breakfast and dinner.......remember when a tv dinner was a special event?

e) don't set limits on video game, internet, tv time. Kids should move....they are not meant to be sedentary.

But these are my opinions based on how my parents raised me. Very Happy

I guess what I am saying is that so many parents are afraid of their kids and refuse to do anything that might upset them. Like actually parent. For example, my husband and I are looking for a dog and I contacted a breeder the other day. I told her we would be having children about a year after we got the dog and would there be problems. She launched into a spiel about how many times she sees parents come to look at her dogs with kids and the kids are running and acting up, messing with the dogs. And the parents seem oblivious to it. She said she won't sell them a dog because if they can't handle their kids, they surely can't train a dog. The point is that if a dog breeder brings it up, it must be a pretty prevalent issue in this country.

not only that, but you remember the line " You have to eat everything on your plate!" it was seen as wasteful to not eat everyting on your plate.
What the fk?
Over eat foods so you dont waste?Hmm
Hows about mom and dad make LESS food so there ISNT waste? Or hows about little child be taught NOT to over flow thier plate so that things can be stored in the fridge for left overs instead of being thrown away?
>sigh<
I could go on and on about this topic.. but my coffee hasnt kicked in yet !
