At swimming lessons, Yaya got frustrated and wailed, "I can't do it!"

Time for a pep-talk, I think.

So I get her in my lap, and I say, "Yaya, you can learn how to do this, just like you've learned how to do other things. Did mommy and daddy teach you how to put on your shoes?"

"Yes."

"Did mommy and daddy teach you how to use the potty?"

"Yes."

"Did mommy and daddy teach you how to say the alphabet?"

"Yes!"

"Did mommy and daddy teach you your numbers?"

"Yes!"

"Mommy and daddy can teach you how to do this, too. You can do it!"

Now she's quite excited.

She stands up, scrunches up her little face with determination, "I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna do it!"

(By this time the other parents are all staring at us... Shocked Embarrassed Then one of them says, "OK, Yaya, you do it!")

Yaya then procedes to lay down on her tummy and start moving her hands and feet in swimming motions!!!

Then everyone starts clapping and cheering. Embarrassed Cool

Perhaps I over-did the pep talk????

Very Happy

So last night as T was putting Yaya down for the night and decided to sing a couple of Christmas carols while Yaya was settling in.

Yaya then asks, "Mommy, is Santa real?"

Shocked

She's only two and a half!!!!!

T thought a moment, because we'd made a promise that we'd never lie to the girls, and said, "Santa is the spirit of Christmas that lives in your heart."

"But is Santa real?"

"The spirit of Christmas is real."

"Then Santa can come out of my heart at Christmas to give me presents!"

Confused <sigh>

Smile I like her Scarlett O'Hara face, the second from the top. (Not that I don't like the others.)

Aw...!

We just had the Santa conversation Thursday, freaky. I used some tissue paper for sozlet's Easter basket, and left it and the container the plastic eggs came in in the basement. I forgot about them, and then sozlet went to get something in the basement a bit later, came across the evidence, and said, "Mamas and Papas are the Easter bunny, aren't they?" Er, um...

So day before yesterday we were cleaning out the basement, and I was putting away some Christmas stuff (lights, ornaments) I'd bought at the after-after-after Christmas sales last year. I'm not sure why that set things off, exactly, but she said, "Santa is kind of like the Easter Bunny, isn't he? He's not really real." Er, um...

I kind of non-answered both questions and waited for her to do follow-ups, and she didn't. We'll see.

She seems to be getting straight answers from you to pretty much every other question she asks. If you "er, um" on this one, and she's even remotely as smart as you describe her, she knows. No need for her to follow up.

Keetah walked today! And she's gone from first step to four steps in a row!

I wonder how she's going to manage to walk and be held at the same time....

I just thought I'd stop in and give an update.

Summer's going great. Yaya's been to dance camp and had a great time. Her recital for her regular dance class was adorable, too, except for the part where Yaya got up to dance with every single group! Shocked

I think she likes the stage....

Keetah is walking great, now, but her pants are starting to fall off because she's getting skinny. She eats like a horse, too, which is a surprise after Yaya.

Keetah has quite a few words, and even more signs. The practice with Yaya really pays off, there.

Yaya is super sweet to Keetah. She's frequently running over to hug or kiss, or even hold Keetah's hand while she walks. There's an occasional toy sharing problem, but it isn't a big deal.

One of the cutest things I've ever seen was their little bottoms waving in the air, as Yaya and Keetah were heads-down investigating something in the closet.

Yesterday we were talking about choices. Yaya piped up with, "I can make good choices, 'cause I'm a human."

We also drove past a feed lot recently. Yaya says, "I smell something."

"Those are stinky cows," I reply.

"Maybe it's pigs."

Finally, Yaya has made pets out of three toy balls. There's Squizzamaroo, Wibby-wobby, and Franklin. They're a family; Franklin's the baby.

Keetah is getting to be quite the little climber. No story in particular, just an observation.

Last night, Yaya took delight in feeding her little sister. Keetah loved it, too, as she got lots of extra rice.

Keetah gives the sweetest kisses. She puts her little face on your arm or shoulder, and says, "mwah!"

You've seen my sigline, I suppose. "I can make good choices, 'cause I'm a human!"

Halloween costumes have been decided upon. A butterfly for Yaya, and a flower for Keetah.

Yaya approached me today, decked out in tiara, purse, and sparkly slippers.

"I'm going to the Fairy Tale Ball!"

I asked what the Fairy Tale Ball is like.

"They have all kinds of balls there, beach balls, and bouncy balls, and throwing balls, and kicking balls. They have hula dancers," (insert hip swaying here), "and people who play the piano, and violins, and guitars. They have dancers, and pictures, and babies, and Yayas and crowns!"
