I've got a Valentine's Day story. I tried to wire some flowers to Hawaii, to be delivered today. Do you realize that there are only a handful of sites/florists that will even consider such a thing? Most online florists don't even HI listed as a state/province choice. I finally put my order through 800-flowers.com, usually reliable site which does include Hawaii among its contacts. Put in the order online Friday night, relaxed. Got four separate phone calls from these people Saturday morning, each one getting more complex thatn the next.

(1) "We can't find any florist within 50 miles of your address that has long-stems in stock. Could we ship direct from the mainland, would that be all right with you?" Sure, ok with me.

(2) "Your color choice doesn't seem to be available; could we substitute a mixed bouquet instead?" Go ahead, just send something.

(3) "It seems everything in Hawaii is closed Monday. Could we deliver either today or Sunday?" Yes, yes, deliver right now if you can.

(4) "Can't find a Hawaiian delivery service. I'm really very sorry but we'll have to cancel that order." (I'll bet you're sorry. There goes a good sale.)

Know what I finally did Saturday? Called up a florist long-distance in Hilo, HI, ordered exactly what I had in mind, called the lady in Volcano, and asked her to go pick up her flowers. She did and called back to say she was thrilled. Sheeesh.

That's my Valentine's Day story. What's yours?

Merry Andrew,
That's both a funny and tragic story. Apparently, the old addage - "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself" - holds true in your case. Ahhhh, it's really hard to get good help these days.............

Stradee,
Nice roses. I love the old varieties - they usually have more scent.

Hi all,
Cliiiiicked.

MA -- When I send roses to somebody, that's what I do... find a likely florist in the area and call them. Often they'll deliver too.

Hope everyone had a warm & fuzzy Valentine's Day.

I have clicked.

(Shoesharper is ill? I send hopes for a speedy recovery.)

sumac, they can keep thier shots, thankyaverymuch

Did you ever wonder why companies offering employees flu shots distributed the vaccine on Friday?

Because people were sick from the serum Saturday and Sunday then miraculously recovered by Monday. Shocked

Will do, Stradee, and thanks for the tips.

Pneumonia vaccine is not the same as the flu vaccine, and people ddon't get sick from the flu vaccine. I have never heard about companies giving out flu shots; usually it is from physicians, clinics, county health departments, or urgent care agencies for those at high risk.

Stradee, I respectfully suggest that you may be misinformed on this issue. Humbly.
