Yeah, sumac, Mar is normally the time to start stuff like potatoes. I'm thinking of moving to Arizona and painting the lawn green. kidding......

Hi Stradee, Glad you are getting the great weather again - after all, it used to be California WX. Now!! We don't know for sure.

And I'm up to my ears in SNOW, again! N'oreaster moved in about 12:15PM today. It was predicted and it's snowing finer flakes, now. Like packed powder. Fine for sking, sledding and X-country skiing, but I live in a small city. Trains, buses, cars and crazy drivers! Since I can't go out, I made a pudding cake with home-made fudge frosting! Husband is happy (and fat!)

Danon, yep ~ seems that way. Today was clearing pine needles and other debris from the last storm and noticed the trees sprouted more buds since just a few days ago. At the grocery shopping area, all the trees lining the parking area have white blooms also. Strange weather.

Not sure when to begin the herb garden, plant annuals or what!
If pre-spring any indication of what summer weather will be like... i'm taking a vacation! <grin>

Teeny, the pie sounds scrumptious! I'll bring coffee, and a snowmobile!

<giggling>

Thank god the snows at higher elevations here, but I can't remember a time when there's been so much rain. The good news is water levels way above normal <lakes and rivers> Should be a great summer season for CA.

Snow started about 3 p.m. here. The small canines are deliriously happy. It's either the snow or the promise of a sample of scallopinni with chicken chili.

At 8:30 p.m. we're still waiting for it here in the City of Brotherly Beans. About a foot promised.

It promises to snow for 24 - 36 hours here - with a foot at the end of the ride - before the drifting starts.

The drift in my miniature urban front yard is already even with my porch. Not sure where it's going to drift to next - up the tree?

As ehBeth can attest, I grew up in a snowbelt - so, frankly, I have had enough. Although nothing beats a great snowfall!

But, back to March 1. Peas. Radish, cool-weather loving greens and veggies. Potatoes that never got harvested from last year. Wonder what they will do.

Dill seeds self-sowing from last year. Seeds, seeds, and more seeds.

I am seeing on the news all the snow in Boston - stay warm all up there. Yes, Canada gets it too - or should I have said, first. The USA just gets your leftovers.

Still snowing.
Shovelled 3 times in less than 12 hours.
The piles of snow along the road between my house and the subway are about shoulder high on me.

News from Brazil...

Outrage over the Feb. 12 murder of nun and Amazon defender Dorothy
Stang has finally catalyzed Brazil's government to protect the forest
Stang worked for decades to save. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio
Lula da Silva, in addition to once again pulling logging permits he
had restored just a week before Stang's assassination due to intense
pro-logging protests, announced that nearly 20,000 square miles of
Amazon forest will be federally protected. But so far, laws and
reserves have made little difference in the Para region, since
loggers and ranchers seize more and more land illegally using forged
deeds or sheer force, something Stang died trying to stop. Even with
federal troops now in the area, business as usual hasn't halted. But
at least those suspected of orchestrating her killing are being
brought to justice: One surrendered to police and another was
apprehended last week, though the rancher believed to have ordered
the hit seems to have fled the region.
