I read once that between the Somme and the Taunus Mountains(approxiametly) that they are placenames of a lost IE languague group, either Celtic or Germanic.
Ahr is possibly one of these placenames, only guessing.
Anyone know any details?
Perhaps I ought to check on the Net etc first.
The people could be the goths and/or the visigoths. Try this site to see if it fits what you're looking for.

The placenames are not supposed to be germanic.

Check this :
Indo-European family of languages
The languague spoken may been spoken by the funnel beaker people.
The link, you gave me on the Indo-european languagues may be inaccurate because did albanian come from Illyrian(nobody is sure,it may have came from Dacian) and what proof do you have that Armenian is a Thracian languague?
Badboy, I gave you a link in order to help you to find the information you were looking for. There was no comment of my part..
Another link to form your own opinion:
albanian
I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS LANGUAGUE(GROUP) IS CALLED NORTHWESTERN BLOCK OR BELGIAN BY SCHOLARS.
Scholars also tend to spell the word LANGUAGE
