Arnhem (a city in The Netherlands) argues that climate change is inevitable and that the city must prepare itself for increasing flooding, heat and drought.
Ten percent less asphalt, shade routes, cool spots and more trees. This is the climate adaptation strategy that the Municipal Executive of Arnhem presented to the city council on Wednesday.

Alderman Cathelijne Bouwkamp says in a press release: "Arnhem is leading the way when it comes to climate adaptation. King Willem-Alexander's visit last year to a number of appealing projects in our city was a good example of this. We would like to maintain that lead".

In its drive to remove 10% of the city’s asphalt, underused roads will be targeted and the municipality is investigating whether recycling or reselling the material will be possible.

Bouwkamp said the city would continue to reduce its carbon emissions as part of the plan. “The energy transition is there to ensure that the city remains liveable in the future,” she said. “We must also adapt to the climate change that is taking place now. Flooding, heat and drought are increasing.”

The Dutch government has pledged to reduce the Netherlands’ greenhouse gas emissions by 49% by 2030, compared with 1990 levels, and to secure a 95% reduction by 2050.

@farmerman,
That phony data that you keep referring to isn't real science.

@oralloy,
Not phony. The denial of it is the phony part. The snowpack in the Cascades keeps melting, your attempt to deny reality is melting faster.

@MontereyJack,
The Global warming data is totally denied by the science deniers on A2K.
No sense arguing with em. Its like explaining snells law to chipmunks

But, but, he has a 170 IQ. He is a genius. As such shouldent we take his word as law? And Trump and his lawless government has unhinged me. I only hope that I live the 4 months it will take for me to vote against these crookes multiple times.

@MontereyJack,
Cherry picked data is phony data.

@oralloy,
was not cherry picked. The data keep piling up, since time keeps elapsing no matter what you do, and it comtnues to show that the world's temperature keeps rising.
to put it in terms even someone with an alleged high iq can understand:

The sun continues to shine,
When it shines, it pumps more eneregy and heat into the world.
We continue to produce more greenhouse gases than the earth sequesters.
The concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere therefore goes up.
therefore more heat is trapped and remains in the earth and the atmosphere. Therefore the temperature goes up.
Te temperature keeps rising.

Yu're arguing with basic physics and physics is always going to win.

@MontereyJack,
When you suppress all findings that are inconvenient to the leftist narrative, that is cherry picking the data.

Millions of data points old and new show there's no suppression. It's all in your mind and the imaginations of the denialists.

@MontereyJack,
no data is ignored because a theory is a system of evidence in which all the evidence supports and NONE of the evidence refutes. Thats the problem with science deniers. They are the ones who try to ignore the obvious evidence. Science see where it fits, if no fit, modify the theory and incorporate the data.

The GW deniers busy making it a political stand much of it supported by big doners and the energy industries

Cherry picked data is not evidence that data isn't being suppressed.

The suppression of data has been clearly proven.

Climate journals have been caught suppressing data that is inconvenient to the leftist narrative.

It's the global warming zealots who've been caught suppressing data.

@oralloy,
Damn, when the peer review process reminds authors about "outliers of data and actual history shows that the entire Sierras are declining in ice pack by over 30%, finding a valley in a year when there was a higher than record snowfall is one data point .
Youve got nothing to hang your hat on except some political BS. Try being objective about the climatology of the planet..
