my computer is so slow i can't look words up while i play...as i tend to have my bridge site open as well..i think using a dictionary is cheating..which is why i tend to play fast...but i hate to look stupid playing someone who used SCRID only to find out it wasn't a valid word...but again it's just my personal preference, i still accept games from those that DON'T have VOID in their seeks..

I can't believe that I am so bad at this game.

I've played you love, and i don't think you are that bad, this game has an element of luck to it...getting the right tiles and placing them well....my roommate will tell you that i am one of the worse spellers but i place my letters well Smile

OUCH! Exclamation Ask Bill he used boner too...that is also why i switched to VOID so no ONE puts down words that are phoney Confused

But boner is a word and it's in the dictionary. An innocent definition:

1. An embarrassing mistake

I think the void option is good for some games, but I feel it takes the thrill out of the game.

I agree. I played another game with LionTamer and he he extended game play to 60 minutes. The game took about 30 minutes to play and it allowed me to take my time. Smile

I think if you are new to this dictionary, then it is better to keep looking the words up, so that you can become familiar with them.

I love ISC. I have been playing over there for a few years. They play by the official Scrabble club rules. They use the official Scrabble club dictionaries. This drives most non- Scrabble club members crazy.
It took me a long time to get used to playing with a timer.
At ISC you can set your timer for as long as you like .

Another word of caution....if you are playing a "regular" over there, do not admit to using a dictionary while you play. The whole "fair play agreement" is based on people not cheating.

I hate to say it, but even scrabble players lie from time to time.

Has any one read "Word Freak" by Stefan Fatsis ? This is a fun read and great window into the world of competitive scrabble.
Folks with too much free time and addictive personalities should steer clear.

I'll usually not challenge words if they're cool and/ or not too many points.

I do that too littlek, watch games and pick stuff up and also learned (I fear it's past tense) a lot from the computers. In the game with Bill I put down "toxines" (all 7), which a computer had used against me.

Of course. What'd you think I meant?

I find all those 2 and 3 letter words that nobody really knows a little annoying... but I'm memorizing them anyway just to keep the playing field level. I don't recall who taught me "SUQ", but It seems to pop up every other game now.

Yes, SUQ is useful, but I use QAT even more. I have no idea what they mean, but I'm going to look them up now!

Ok, sharing my new knowledge:

suq (also spelled souk or suk) is a marketplace in the Muslim East

qat (also spelled kat, khat, qat, quat, or cat) is a shrub cultivated by the Arabs for its leaves that act as a stimulant narcotic when chewed or used as a tea

Lion Tamer, I read Word Freak - loved it! It got a little thin at points, but it was a cool window into the sub-culture.
