For years now ive felt really foggy headed, like Im not using all of my bran coz its mostly blocked up and cant retain any information.
I also get a bit dizzy and feel like I dont exsist.
You blood sugar could be too low! That is what happened to me, you feel like you are here but you are not kinda, get really dizzy and dicombobulated? Kinda like you are in a dream?
Do you feel better after you eat?

material girl- For years you have felt this way? And you haven't checked it out? I would suggest that a complete checkup, with bloodwork, is greatly overdue.
The symptoms that you describe could be from many causes, some serious, most not. Only a good medical diagnostician can get to the bottom of it.
No one needs to spend his/her life feeling the way that you describe. Check it out!

I know I should but Im such a scaredy cat with anything to do with me.I hate talking outloud about myself.Thats why I like forums.
I will seriously consider it tho.
With blood sugar levels, do you mean to eat more sugary things?
Yes I feel very woozy when I havnt eaten for a while.I eat at proper meal times, try not to snack inbetween as I keep putting on weight.
Being in a dream is EXACTLY how I would describe it.I found that very scary when I realised it as my dreams tend to consist of me turning up somewhere and I dont have a clue whats going on or where I am.The feeling has spilled over into reality.

You may be hypoglycemic, that what I am... it is kinda the opposite of having diabetes, you get dizzy, tired, in a dream like state.... anywho, what my doctor recommended is instead of eating large meals (3 a day) eat 6 small meals (eat every two hours) but stay away from sugar!! (at least don't eat alot) because even though you don't have enough, by putting in a lot at a time, it will make you feel better but your body will crash much faster and you will feel worse... eat it in increments......
The next time you don't feel good, do me a favor and drink a large glass of orange juice, if within an hour it makes you feel better go to your doctor and let him know.. the sooner you find out the better ( you don't want ti start fainting)
also does your heart race when you feel like this?

You probably have low blood sugar. You need to eat more. Not candy but good stuff.
Try eating 6 small meals every day. Meaning for example: for breakfast fruit and juice or toast and juice, snack of veggies/fruit/lowfat yogurt mid morning, for lunch a sandwich and soup, snack of veggies/fruit/lowfat yogurt, for dinner chicken and veggies, snack of veggies/fruit/lowfat yogurt or a small portion of junk food. Avoid high carb meals. They will cause your blood sugar to soar and then crash.
You won't gain weight this way if you control your portions.

Brilliant advice thanks.
Id been thinking of doing the 6 small meals a day thing as I eat breakfast at 7am then dont eat til 1pm,I get soooooooo hungry inbetween.
I started drinking water with a spoonful of sugar in it,which helped straight away but didnt last long.
Recently i have been drinking more fruit juice but didnt really notice any difference but Im happy to carry on drinking it.
Ive never fainted before, luckily, tho I have many times been in such a woozy state that i thought i would keel over any second.
I shall look up info on hypoglycemic cases.
Thanks for your advice. They are all great reasons to change the way I eat.I hate feeling this way.

If you really don't like doctors, material girl, you can get a glucometer without a prescription. Good ones start around $80.00. Do not start loading up on sugar and other carbs without knowing what you are doing.
Hypoglycemia will show other symptoms than just confusion and dizzyness, by the way. A cold, clammy sweat is another sign.

you shouldn't self-diagnose yourself. in my humble opinion you absolutely need to see a doctor. sounds like you haven't seen one for years -- so even if you'd feel ok a checkup would be on schedule. don't play with your health, it's not worth it! think of it - is years of feeling woozy preferrable to a half hour visit at the doctor's office, no matter how scared you are? after that we can pitch in with diet tips and all, but girl, you gotta go!

I went to the doctor and said this
Me -'I feel foggy headed, like i dont exist, Im assuming thats not normal'.
Doc-'Well, when do you feel like this, when your happy, excited?'
I didnt know what to say as Im rarely happy or excited so I just said, it happens all the time.
Me-'I dont know if its just because my job is dull and my brain has finally totally switched off...'
We concluded that I hate my job just like most people and I should just use my brain more.

MG I don't like your doctor's conclusion. Tell him you want to have a glucose tolerance test. It will determine if you are hypoglycemic, and it sure sounds like you are. If you do have hypoglycemia and continue to wait long periods between eating and drinking juice to to elevate your blood sugar you are going to become diabetic. You mentioned weight gain in another post and this can also indicate a blood sugar problem. Many people with hypoglycemia notice a slowing of their metabolisms and they quickly gain weight if they eat white carbohydrates (sugar, bread, pasta). The advice CrazyL and Bella posted is very good and I'm surprised your doctor thinks this has anything to do with unhappiness in a job. Go to a female doctor and you will probably get a different response. You have real symptoms of a physical problem and I think you need to be tested.

He sounds like one of those sonsobitch doctors, who see a girl of a certain age and thinks it hormonal hysteria.
How DARE he dismiss you like that. He's a medical professional, not Dear Friggin Abby.
Bastards!

Thank you for your passionate responses.
In his defence he is a very nice doctor.Im just not confortable discussing my problems so it probably just came across as a 'small problem'.
Are there any pills I can take for hypoglycemia. If not the doc cant help,il just have to read about it and eat the right things.

I agree. A lot of doctors dismiss a woman's symptoms as "nerves". I think that he ought to be horsewhipped for not prescribing a glucose tolerence test. At the least, you should have had a complete fasting blood workup. What a dork! (The doctor, not you!)

What?
That is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. I hate it when doctors don't listen to you.
I think you need to find a new doctor. Stat.

The one female doctor I saw once was sooo scary.
I was talking to her about irregular periods and she asked me 'well how far into the packet are you?'(refering to the Pill packet, I wasnt on he pill)I got confused and asked what do you mean. She just kept on saying 'where in the packet are you, how many have you taken?'
I have no experience of the pill, dint know what they came in or how many were taken etc)
Eventually she said 'the pill!!!Where are you in the packet!'
Im nervous anyway and that really didnt help, especially as I thought the pill sorted out irregular periods anyway so why would she assume I was on them.
Anyhoo Im a nervous wreck at a doctors.Once th edoc had to take my blood pressure twice coz I was so nervous at the beginning.
It really does put me off.

MG you are acting very childish. Ask a few of your female friends if they have a general doctor that they like. I'm sure not all the doctors in England are twits. If you really have a doctor phobia you might want to seek professional counseling to get over it. Everyone gets sick at some point in their life, and as you get older you will likely to need doctors even more. Even at 30 a woman needs an annual gyno. exam.
You cannot cure hypoglycemia, but it can be controlled with diet. First you need to have a glucose tolerance test to make sure that it's your problem and not something more serious like a brain tumor.

MG,
I agree with the others that you need to go see a new doctor. Very, very important. You don't need to go through your life feeling like sh*t.
Maybe you could recruit someone to go with you to the doctors'. They can be your support, your guide, and your voice if you are that afraid of doctors. Maybe your mom, a sister?, girlfriend, aunt, whoever you trust and who is assertive and will make sure you get through the proper care!
