I can not see how to make a post, so I merely want to ask a question. I am a psychotherapist and deal with clients who are severely depressed, suicidal, and predominately war trauma. Therefore, you might understand why the phrase...don't let the bastards win .....has been a life quote for me repeatedly and my clients. I would like to know how to say this in Latin for my OWN mental well being and personal humor which can help keep some situations in perspective...thank you
Dr. Robert Baize
There is an old humorous pseudo-Latin saying: Non illegitimi
carborundum (Don't let the bastards grind you down). It goes back at
least as far as Gen. "Vinegar Joe" Stillwell, who used it as his motto
in World War II. It isn't real Latin, of course. Carborundum is a
commercially made substance with a Latin-sounding name that is used
for grinding.
If you want a literal translation of "Don't let the bastards win", it
would be: Ne nothi vincant.
But I like the silly one better.
