whooooooo hooooooooooooo
I'll find that location for you, Green Witch. I'm glad you could make this work!
You can let me know 24 hours ahead of time, that's about when I will know if I can get on the bus or not.
I won't have internet access from about October 17 or 18, so I've sent you a p.m., Green Witch.
meeting point is on this map ... click (but not where the red mark is)
there are two street fairs on Saturday the 22nd. Green Witch points out wisely, that they are very close together (or in Ottawa Valley speak - they are side by each) - so both can be checked out the same morning.
Quote: Sat Oct 22nd
St. Joseph's Church Festival
on Washington Place from Grove - McDougal Street
Sat Oct 22nd
Washington Square Festival
on Waverly Place from Broadway - 5th Avenue
Green Witch--
I'm delighted that you might join the Gathering. I may well be tied up on Saturday morning with an ESL class, but perhaps after lunch....
EhBeth--
"Side by each" sounds positively Pennsylvania Dutchy.
so what time shall we get together at our place on Saturday night? I'm open for suggestions.........
LTX update:
Seeing as how our flight doesn't get in until 2:30PM on the 20th, I don't see how we can make it from Newark to West Caldwell to NYC by 4:00PM. The Lions will have to miss the Frying Pan festivities, and set our sights on Friday and the Russians. (Hopefully with a brief, but satisfying repast somewhere along the way.)
I will confer with my better half and get her feelings about the possibility of us going straight from the airport to the city, but it seems unlikely.
(pm'ing my digits to EhBeth)

that is just too freaky this close to Hallowe'en

Calm down...
That's what the kids say these days for "I'm giving you my phone number."
OMG, LOL, etc.
pffffffffffffffffffffffft
ok, so back in the first 20 or so pages of the thread, JoeNation mentioned Arnie's - a deli Broadway/80's that I couldn't track down.
The Guggenheim's up in that zone.
Anyone know where Arnie's is - or where else we can get together for blintzes? <mmmmmmmmmmmmmm blintzes>
And a meeting time - with time to digest those blintzes before we climb up and down the Guggenheim.
I'm guessing Joe was referring to
Artie's Delicatessen
which is on the Upper West Side, across Central Park from the Guggenheim. It's probably about a half-hour walk from the museum to Artie's. It would be a lovely walk through the park in nice weather, and there's also the 86th Street crosstown bus if the weather is anything like it's been here recently (over 12 inches of rain in the past week).
Ah, Diane and I took that bus..
Let me recommend something slightly different, if you happen to be in the mood, a small japanese tea room, Tomaya's or something like that, on 71st or so, and Madison. Quiet, elegant, not expensive, world's best tuna sandwich, wild green chocolate drink. Around the corner from the Frick.
Whooooohooooooo - that's all kinds of helpful, Bree.
It would definitely explain why I couldn't track it down, searching for Arnie's.
The location's good. The friend I'm travelling with really wants to do the Staten Island Ferry, so if we do that early early and then get back to Battery Park by 10 - and then transit up Broadway to Artie's ... lunch - then over to the Guggenheim.
Noddy, LTX - whaddya think about Artie's? check out the menu.
And the info about the 86 crosstown bus helps as we'll be staying on East 85th this time.
<time for me to Google up some more maps>
OssoB - the Friday lunch encounter - we're hoping for blintzes.
Not sure if Artie's has them.
Off to explore.
I like Artie's menu. The knishpuppy sounds intriguing.
I'm game if Noddy is.
GREEN Chocolate?
(I just had a wondrous perfect chocolate and cardamon drink today...orgasmic!)
I assume the beans are unroasted?
the knishpuppy sounds like an only-in-new-york thing.
Noddy - Artie's?
