I always thought it was the first example but I'm being shouted down here Confused

Me thinks 'a horrific murder' unless he murdered more than one :wink:

You are in England and I am in the USA. I too was taught the first example to be correct. Please read the following:

I make my H silent with some words. I'll always say "an hispanic couple". But in the case of "horrific", I seem to stress the H, so I would never use "an".
