Where have I said that anyone in jail DESERVES to suffer another crime? I have not.

This whole discussion has come about because I made an off-hand comment about (paraphrasing here) not feeling sorry for the dude that got humiliated by our soldiers while being in Abu Ghraib due to stealing a car. I stand by that remark. I feel no sympathy for him.

I'll make this simpler. Did he deserve to get "humiliated" (tortured) by our soldiers due to stealing a car?

If your answer is yes, then that's exactly what you've been denying saying thus far. (See first quote.)

If the answer is no, why don't you have any sympathy for him?

Since you are making this simple for me......

NO, he did not deserve to get humiliated by our soldiers. I have no sympathy because he himself placed himself in a position that, through a series of events, led to his humiliation. Had he been thrown into Abu Ghraib for looking at someone the wrong way, and been humiliated by the soldiers, I would feel sympathy for his plight. But, the man BROKE THE LAW, landed in prison, and while there was humiliated by our soldiers. Had he not broken the law, he would not have been humiliated. Thus, I DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR HIM.

I do however feel sorry for getting into this. I deserve everything I get. Smile

..and you made a point crystal here:
Let's bring it closer to home.
Your daughter gets locked up in a lawless Filipino prison for a triviality...let's say being drunk and disroderly-- a legitimate punishment by their cultural and legal standards, we'll say. While in prison, she is repeatedly raped (and why not repeatedly...you get it done once, may as well keep the train going. Right?) and beaten.
Now, anyone will agree that perhaps what she experienced was excessive and uncalled for, but she was imprisoned due to her actions and must then suffer the consequences.
Would a little sympathy be in order from your fellow Americans?

Are we really going to what-if this to death? Next time my daughter (if I had one) would be more careful about breaking the law while in a foreign country. I would be concerned for her. I would (as I have been consistent in stating) believe that she did not deserve it. But, the bottom line is, she broke the law. I would not feel sorry for her. Her illegal actions put into motion the events that culminated with her rape. Why should I feel sorry FOR her. (That is not to say I would not feel sorry IT happened TO her. There is a difference.)

Please Free, either you or Cy, next time you see me type something and get into this type of discussion, please, please remind me early on about this one.

I'm gonna have to go home and have a glass or two of wine just to wind down a bit.

Note to self: If I ever find myself in a jail cell with anyone involved in this discussion, I must remember not, I repeat, not to bend over. They will swear I asked for it and deserve it. Rolling Eyes

Thanks, but I am beginning to think it may take a whole bottle. So just ship me one to Charleston. I'll be looking for it.

OK, in the era of internet-freaka-porn, can we not have "bend over" and "take a whole bottle" occupy the same space in dialogue.

I wouln't have a problem with the worst of the worst in prison here in the US were allowed to be tortured. If your in for being a pediphile or a murderer then let the torture happen, maybe it would work a little better then this candy ass approach we have to our current prison system.

I also think in the cases of people running from the police, that they should be allowed to be beat for a measured time in accordance with the amount of time that they were running from the police putting peoples in danger. If you run for 20 minutes then you should receive a 5 minute beating. I would love to see a 1 to 5 ratio in cases such as that. Less people would run from the police.

As for the people who are in prison in Iraq I'm sure they are not as innocent as they seemto be. Most of them that have been put there are not first time offenders and I'm sure have done other things that they haven't been caught for. I do beleive in Karma!

Perhaps, it is because I am new or that tone is quite difficult to interpret in this online medium; whatever the case, I cannot refrain from asking this question: you are joking right Baldimo? I'm still ruminating whether that post was serious or actually tongue-in-cheek. If you wouldn't mind clarifying...
