I was an early supporter of his, but lost my enthusiasm more than a year ago.

I don't know what makes men with a little power become utter pigs, but I am happy women are able to say Me Too and get some action, at last.

@tsarstepan,
If the universe has a sense of humor, Michelle Bachman will win this seat in 2018.

@maxdancona,
since the same disclosures were made before Trumps win, I think fRanken oughta just take the crowd's temperature in Minn and decide to possibly run qgain. Wed have two molesterians , one in Congress and one in the oval office.

@farmerman,
Did you listen to the news conference?

Franken is claiming that most of the charges against him are false. Hell of a lot of good that does him... there is no due process in a public witch hunt.

@maxdancona,
you sound like Trump. Im not sayin for him NOT to resign--he should. That separates the DEMs and the GOP.

We do have pix of him attempting a grope. Those and another few items he does not deny. He limits his culpability by asserting innocence to a few and "recalling different outcomes" in others.
Trump didnt deny anything and still got elected. I think Franken should go home and see whqt the citizens of Minn have to sy.
Then try to convince the DNC that hes worth a chance as a "soiled but repentant sinner".

****, it worked for Plumpity

What are you talking about? Trump is not defending Al Franken, in fact he attacked Franken's behavior. The Democrats are shooting their own in a fit of self-righteous outrage. Republicans are right to be laughing.

If the Democrats lose this Senate seat, they might end up regretting this particular human sacrifice to the God of ideological purity.

No, we do not have any pictures of him attempting a grope. You have a picture that you are interpreting without really knowing his intent (it could have been a joke, there could have a misguided continuation of earlier flirting). There is no possible way that Franken could tell his side of the story without being mocked and hated. He is smart enough to not even try.

This is the problem with witch hunts. You never get to hear the witch's side of the story.

You don't know what really happened, nor do I. We have heard one side of the story which you believe because it fits an overall ideological narrative. Once the pitchforks and torches the actual facts don't matter. Only the narrative matters.

And so, now the Democrats have lost a strong progressive voice, and they very well may lose a Senate seat in the process.

This is stupidity at its worst.

@tsarstepan,
He's setting the bar pretty high with this. Let's see if any other politicians have as much integrity. Doubt it.

The governor of Minnesota is a Democrat and will appoint a Democrat to fill the seat.

@Kolyo,
There will be a reelection in 2018. The winner will serve the remaining 2 years of the term. The appointment won't serve long.

a couple of commentators have suggested that the resignation was phrased in a way that hints at a political future for Mr. Franken.

I'm surprised that anyone is even listening to that nutcase Gillibrand after she went on the floor of the Senate and falsely accused an innocent man of being a rapist.

Youve gotta realize that the president has set the bar incredibly low when it comes to "communicating ideas". Every damn day he wrecks peoples lives with his tweets and his crap that he makes believe is actual governance. SOO gillibrand , suitably chastised for dumb remarks, can still look down on our Liar-in-Chief.

I disagree, they were suitably graphic even though theres space twixt the grop and the object of the grope.
His only safe spot is that, he didnt have a political career in mind yet.

@tsarstepan,
Can I ask you US folk if you can explain the emotion from many democrats around this resignation?

I have seen fury directed at other Democrats and promises never to help fund some campaigns

Is it that some feel that only men whose politics they oppose can be sexual predators?

Is Franken so loved that people cannot believe ill of him?

Is it because the likes of Trump carry on seemingly unscathed?

It just seems to me that Franken has behaved decently. Ought we not support that even when it hits our side?

It hurts a bunch to lose a great senator like Franken but I believe it was a necessary action given the times. Zero tolerance needs to ... just be the thing for sexual harassment/assault.

They're the reason why Sanders lost the primary. Insanely stubborn for the wrong reasons.

Dead wrong. I love Franken and all his political stands. I called for his ouster as well. We should NEVER suffer fools and hypocrites.

Yes.

404 error. He's a separate monster.

After the smoke clears and if Franken rights the wrongs or generally proves himself innocent? No one is going to stop him from running again for this or another office.

The thing is I really think it was sorta misunderstood. I have heard about people who have taken pictures with him prior to him getting involved in politics. You know back when he was on SNL and they said he was a very "touchy feely" type of person. Even to guys he would grip their shoulders very firmly and pat them inappropriately.

I think he has a lot of insecurities and he is a comedian at heart which makes him very impulsive. He is a bit eccentric too which is probably why he craves attention and a desire to connect with people. That is probably why he is so touchy with people.

I'm not trying to justify his behavior. I'm saying he is just as much a victim as the people he "abused".

This whole thing though is just a political chest move. The ONLY way the left can continue to demonize the right is if they make one of their own confess and step down. The left are stupid though with this kind of move because the right aren't going to just start dragging out their side and making anyone step down.
