help to translate a Chinese word in English, thank you

What is the English for "皮带跑偏装置", a device to prevent the strap to slip awry on a belt strap roller? Rolling Eyes

I've consulted my husband. Neither of us have any Chinese but he has a considerable engineering background.\

From the information you've given, he suggests "safety clip"

P.S. After deep thought he thinks you might mean "idler pully".

Occom Bill--

I'm guessing that the Four Blocks in translatorscz's request for information are a confession by the A2K computer that it does not have the typeface to do Chinese characters.

By the by, my husband thinks that buckle might be an answer...but if the belt is moving....

Lacking an engineering background and any Chinese vocabulary, I'd rather not be in the middle here.

I'm asking for a friend. And I can't provide any pictures. So I can only describe what I know. This device is to be put on a bigger device. And the latter has two auto-tire-like rollers, with straps or a belt links them together. The strap or belt is commonly often made of leather or rubber. And the device is to transfer something from one place to another several meters away. Since the bigger device is not so safe. The belt or strap will again and again slip out of the device. So we must use a smaller device to prevent it from slipping out. What I want to know is what this small device called.

Translatorcz, I found this page full of trouble shooting tips.

I don't know what you mean by this. I arrived at my first guess by cutting and pasting these 6 Chinese Characters (皮带跑偏装置) into WorldLingo.com's online Translator.

A2K doesn't seem to have a problem with his use Chinese Characters or mine. Perhaps your computer doesn't like them?

Ps. 圣诞快乐! (means Merry Christmas!)

What is the retainer clips and what is the sleeves? I think you have found the right thing, but I tried to check it out but am not successful. Yes, it's a pulley. and the small device I refered is to prevent the strap from slipping out.

I think a device to prevent a conveyor belt slipping out would be called a guide.

Perhaps also, a retainer.

These are very helpful and interesting posts, BTW.

The page above donesn't work good. When it encounter professional phrases like this, it produces nonsense explanations. "The leather belt runs installs". It can only translate some simple Chinese. Sad

I asked an A2K friend who is Chinese, and he checked, and came up with this:

"Chinese expert found these from technical books:

1. belt tracking system;
2. belt anti-snaking device

Or

1. belt centering device "

So you could take your pick. My original suggestion of the word "guide" sounds okay to me, if you want to keep it simple (but writers of technical guidebooks rarely do, it seems Sad )
