Yes, English is crazy!

You park on a driveway and drive on a parkway.

Yeah, they say that English is the hardest language to learn.

Granted we are fortunate enough not to have male and female attatchments to our words (something I am learning in French, which is quite difficult at times), but it really can get insane.

We have some foriegn exchange students at our school... Oy. I feel horrible for them; they are learning common-place (non text-book) English as well as Ebonics and slang Laughing I don't know how they do it.

Our language varies from regions of the US and also differs immensely in the UK and Austrialia (among other English-speaking countries).

I say we give ourselves a pat on the back for not just throwing up our hands at age 2! Not that actually knowing the language means we use it properly

You can't tell the difference between "Free Speech" and "Free Beer".

I do believe that the difficult languages in order are:

1. Chinese/Japanese
2. Russian
3. English.

We wind up a clock and wind our way home.

Sorry, McTag. I'm embarassed to admit I agreed with the title before realizing it is "English is Crazy." I thought the author meant "The English ARE Crazy."

Again, my sincerest apologies.

Francis, there is an interesting story behind that word. When I have more time, I will recount it. In the interim, merci.(French 101) Smile

Letty, I've always wended my way home. You wind?

One thing, Russian is easy to spell. Russian schools don't have to teach spelling because if you can pronounce it, you can spell it. Every letter has a sound, and it's the same, always. At least that's what I've heard (I no more speak/spell Russian than I can fly)...

German would be fine, if they would just quit tying words together to make a word and a paragraph come out to the same length.
