Hi, this is my test.My first to you.Man, I'm starting to ask questions. That means I'm learning grammar, which I hated. It's now interesting, like a game or a puzzle Smile

What does every sentence means, and implies:

1) I shouldn't have written to him.He phoned shortly.

2) I needn't have written to him.He phoned shortly.

3) I didn't have to write to him.He phoned shortly.

The third sentence is the best choice.

I would add the word "afterward" at the end of the second sentence to make it clearer...

1. Somehow harm came from writing him?

2. Writing him was superfluous. He called shortly afterwords, so you might as well not have bothered.

3. Same as 2, only you never got around to writing him.

Navigator--

Whether you are speaking to your true love or to a prospective employer or to a mugger or to an English teacher--there are always nuances.
