Yipes!
1) tried to open the door, but once again my key wasn't working.

2) There was something wrong; I knew that.

3) Cradle tends to be used only as something you rock a baby in; grid--if you mean a grill or something that covered the window, or use latch or lock if you mean a mechanism or device that prevented your opening of the window. OK?

4) She was a Lonely (not lone) old lady. Lone is an adjective describing a noun, and tends to be one person, kind of like the Lone Ranger (the only ranger). Lonely means sad and wanting company.

Keen2learn has the rest except I'd say that a pantry (nearly an obsolete term in modern houses) was mostly storage with a little food preparation. A kitchenette, is either a small kitchen area with all appliances (a small kitchen; ette is a diminutive) or a set of table and chairs--usually a kitchenette set like a dinette set.

Hope that helps!
