Consider the Q1 and its 2 possible answers A11 and A12.

Q1: Did you go?

A11: Yes, I went.
A12: No, I didn't go.

Now see the Q2 and its 2 possible answers A21 and A22.
I think A21 is correct. What about A22 ???

Q2: Didn't you go?

A21: No, I didn't go.
A22: "No, I went" OR "Yes, I went".

Some languages have a special word for an affirmative which contradicts a negative:

French - "Si" instead of "Oui"
German - "Doch" instead of "Ja"

English - erm, no difference - both "Yes"

So, to make it even more negative:

Q: You didn't go, did you?
A: Yes, I did.

"Yes" is the correct answer.
