A teacher once gave me that old saying about ' those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it' (or whatever the saying is).

Being a surly teen I replied, 'We're doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over again anyway. At least if you don't know history you won't have the angst of knowing that your mistakes aren't even original.'

Do we ever really learn?
