A 'Chemical Haze' Stole Across A British Beach — And No One Knows What It Was

It was a lovely late summer afternoon at a beach in southern England. Sun, surf and not a cloud in the sky — until the strange "chemical haze" drifted in off the sea, that is. It was at that point the beachgoers found their eyes streaming tears and their throats growing sore, their gag reflex triggering as some began to vomit.

Then, the professionals in hazmat suits showed up.
I lost the link, will be back.

This may be a prank or serious.

It's not a fog, it was colourless. London isn't naturally foggy anyway, that was all caused by pollution, now the heavy industry has moved out London is now pretty much fog free. Having said that, my flight back to Gatwick from Copenhagen on Friday was delayed by thick fog.

Re the contaminant, could be a lot of things: WW2 munitions, illegal dumping by ships, or pollution from the continent. A few years ago a nasty smell wafted across to Southampton from Northern France, but it didn't have any other ill effects.
