Here is a sentence:

If there are 10 men in our office, how many women are there in our office?

I ain't much good at riddles - too given to linear thinkin', I s'pose - but I'd say if the ratio is precisely 3 - to - 1, then if there are ten men, there oughtta be 30 women. Tell ya what - if ya wanna test that hypothesis, you could always count the number of women's shoes, and divide by 2 Laughing

Then it will be 40 people in the office.

so out each 4 people, 3 will be women.

out each 4 people, 1 will be a man.

it doesn't match.

maybe there is hermaphrodits.

No, Francis. In each group of four, there will be three women and one man. The women outnumber the men three to one.

It matches. You could also say, The ratio of women to men is 3:1.
