From Epicurus, the Greek philosopher. He said that we don't need God because we free our fear from having one.

Hmmm.

Tourism: Let's take pictures of ****.
Conservatism: The original **** was the best ****.
Liberalism: We need more money to fund new ****.
Libertarianism: The government should stop mucking around in our ****.
Academiism: Your **** doesn't count unless you write a book about it.

That's all I've got for now. I realize none of those are religions. Razz

Etymologically speaking, if it has "-ism" at the end, it's usually a belief in something.

Not neccessarily. Tourism is a commonly used word, and it doesn't mean a belief in touring. Similarly with environmentalism, or industrialism, or consumerism. It can mean a lot of things, really. Mostly it refers to what people do.

Come to think of it, industrialism should be, "Let's mass produce this ****."

Touche, CI. But religions don't have to be about beliefs, they too can be about practices. You can hardly say that Agnosticism is about belief. Razz

Or "anti-belief". Don't take etymological definitions too literally. Often, when "belief" is used in the etymological meaning, the real meaning is more general, but in English, we just tend to stick on the Greek suffix, "-ism" at the end of the word quite lazily.

I'm not sure about "lazily," but it's a helpful tool for the English langage. Wink

My Etymology mentor said to use the "English sucks" rule when doing etymological analysis. Especially with Latin.

What are you trying to tell us about your apparently quite exciting life and/or religion? We are all campadres here. I would use the 'wink' emoticon, but it is beneath you, or is it on top?
