I liked Love Actually, actually <blushes> but I guess I'm not really a guy guy.

Goodbye Lenin was funny too and moving as well, though somehow not quite as funny or moving as I'd expected it to be (but then it was greatly hyped here after the runaway succes itd been in Germany). I mean, I'd recommend it to anyone (in fact, I did). Its only just an afterthought that again, the idea of it seemed the actual stroke of genius, and the implementation then ever so slightly an anti-climax. But then again that might be just me. I could definitely identify with the kid, though <nods>.

I didnt really get Y Tu Mama Tambien, I think ... I thought it was an entertaining enough movie, be it a bit slow (and I usually dont have any problems with slow ... my favourite movie of the past two years is a Bela Tarr one). I dunno. Kinda <shrug> about it.

La Mala EducaciĆ³n and The Motorcycle Diaries are both (still) playing here, havent seen 'em yet ... and might not see 'em cause of the films playing in town right now I would first go to Dopo Mezzanotte (which apparently is charming, like an Italian Amelie), Buongiorno Notte (which should be interesting), The Incredibles (which should be engaging) and perhaps G.O.R.A. (just for the cultural curiosity of it), Der Untergang (much-acclaimed, but I'll have to be in a serious mood) or Finding Neverland (didnt sound appealing but got a lot of good reviews). I'm never going to see all of those, so I dont think I'll even stand a chance at coming round to the hispanic ones (or Ae Fond Kiss), unless someone takes me.

nihm, I thought "Love Actually" was a funny spoof of the old Rock Hudson/Doris Day movies so if one has a pet peeve towards those comedies, they won't like the "remake."

I was thinking tonight of Greg Peck and his role in Beloved Infidel. Even Old Gringo. I know that the movie wasn't very good, but I still think of him often. So long ago, he did a movie called Gentleman's Agreement.

What an actor.

Hmmm, he and his wife used to show up at our church sometimes, back in the days of yore. Or maybe I am dreaming, as that was very long ago and far away, in many ways.

I generally like romatic comedies, so it's not the genre that I disliked.

I'm not sure as to exactly what did put me off but I suspect that the disjointed telling of multiple tales made it harder for me to care about any of them individually.

The "disjointed telling of muliple tales" was part of the tongue-in-cheek poking fun at all those 50's and 60's rather lame romantic comedies. Could you appreciate any of the unabashed campiness of the movie? It wasn't exactly like "Airplane!" which lampooned movies that took themselves too seriously. Lampooning movies meant to be comedies in the first place is tricky -- I do believe they were not completely successful but what I did really like was the fun the actors were having with their characters.

I just finished Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I started it last night after coming home late from a party.

I was too exhausted to finish it so I started it again when waking up.

It wasn't any better and I was still bored by it.

I thought my verdict would be that I loved the concept and the mental meanderings it elicited more than the actual movie (I found myself tripping on the concept and not paying too much attention).

But the ending changed my mind and made it all worthwhile.

I really like it now.

Incidentally, I watched it without knowing anything about it.

Just went to rate the movie in Netflix (so that it would recommend me similar ones) and saw some reviews and critiques.

If I had read any of them before I probably would have enjoyed it a lot less. So I recommend going into it blindly.

Just started NetFLix at their new low price again and you just reminded me to add that movie to my queue.

Well, I tried to watch "Amacord" last night in a beautiful hi-def print and kept falling asleep. Could have been the Coronas.

Are you as surprised as I am that it's called a "romantic comedy"?

Watched Intollerable Cruelty and Dodgeball.

Nothing much to say about either, and I did chores and laundry while watching them.

Just read the book, Mystic River, by Dennis Lehane. Certainly good in the league of police procedurals. Episodic, but then, books are often that way, sometimes, though often not, to the good.

I'll give it that, that when the book went off on its many tangents, I followed with interest.
I would edit it, but then so would he, I would guess, by now.
