I'm trying to get back into movies through Netflix, after having shunned mass media (Movies, TV and Radio) for a few years and here I'll collect my comments on movies that don't deserve their own threads.

Elf

I like Will Ferrell a lot, one of my favorite SNL actors. A pity that with one more of his movies under my belt I still haven't found one that is funny all the way through.

The Day After Tomorrow

I got what I expected, pure garbage. I started writing code after a few minutes while watching this on an itty-bitty 1 inch mediaplayer screen.

Just Cause

Just watching it again, also in the ole 1 inch anchor window as it's just fun the first time.

Anyone know if Mystic River is any good? I have to decide whether to watch it or return it for another.

I'll try watching it now, I have to stay awake long enough to get to work.

I am Sam

Watched it again, still love it. The girl is so cute that she is causing me to ponder social issues about wanting cute kids.

Kill Bill Vol 1

I was watching it in Windows Media Player (instead of Windows Media Center, which I believe is powered by Power DVD) and it wasn't displaying the subtitles when the Japanese dialoge was on.

In the beginning I thought it was the way it was supposed to be and tried to follow along with my rusty Japanese till I figured out that much of the film is like that and I wasn't following along.

I thought it was the DVD that was the problem but then noticed the program differences.

From what I saw, it was pretty pathatic. Tarantino at his one-trick (shock) worst.

Man on Fire

Another film to accompany programming. But as far as revenge flicks go it seemed different.

Gattaca

I watched it again just because my friends wanted to. I always thought the social issues were more interesting than the film, making repeat viewing boring.

White Chicks

Again, not my choice to see. Was never funny and was one of the worst films I have seen.

Tuesdays with Morrie

Cute, but it mainly just reminded me of my to do list (I'm trying to change something about my life for the better each week).

13 going on 30

Roommate's choice, I didn't finish it.

Love Actually

Didn't like it till the end, when I liked it just a wee bit for god knows what reason. Took three viewings to finish.

Still never figured out what the porn scenes were about.

The Ring

I'm amazed that this horrible plot was the only film that has scared me since childhood. It's just so unbelieveable and stupidbut sets mood well.

I helped by wathing it alone on a cold night. When people came over I paused and waited for them to leave before continuing.

I suspect that I should have followed my Japanese friend's advice and watched Ringu first, she said it was scarier and since people say it was understated in comparison she's probably right.

One Hour Photo

Williams seems to just be trying to knock the "greeting card" label. Thought it was mediocre.

50 First Dates

Horrible, but the best Sandler film I have seen.

Movies I have with me and plan to watch:

Dancer in the Dark

Again, not my choice, but a friend claims a friend of hers was depressed for a week after seeing this and wanted to see it.

That alone is interesting. But it's probably just typical female emotion control issues and nothing special about the movie.

I kid I kid.

Waking Life

I thought it was philosophically stupid but visually interesting when high. I wanna see whether it has any other redeeming qualities.

American History X

Probably my favorite film, plan to watch it again.

Amelie

Have it, plan to watch it again when I have time.

La Vita e Bella

Plan to watch it yet another time. Maybe in a different language just to mix it up.

Mystic River is one of the best movies to come out of Hollywood in quite a few years.

I just saw 21 Grams and thought it was much better than Mystic River, if you want a Sean Penn flick.

I've been watching a lot of movies the past few weeks:

Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius (want to own this one)

Luther - an interesting period piece

Hero I want to own this one also - I was a fan of Crouching Tiger and this is right up that alley

Spider-Man2 - one cause I already saw 1 - only 2 thumbs up

Chronicles of Riddick didn't treally like this at all

Terminal I like it much more in the theater than again at home

Stepford Wives
total waste of time - but wanted to see how it compare to what I remember to the first version many many years ago

I recently rented "Dogville" from my Video on Demand.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0276919/

It sounded good from the reviews, interesting, different. After watching this movie for what seemed an eternity, I had to admit that I had made a mistake.

I think that this film holds the record for the times that I left to go to the bathroom, get a snack, and length of time that I snoozed while it was playing.

Nooooo. Don't tell me you didn't like this movie. It is just so darn adorable.
My ex and I saw this movie together one night and gee did I cry!!! See... The movie is supposed to be so hilarious and all (which it was at some points) but it got me thinking about what my ex have had to, has to, and will always have to go through by having no STM.

I refuse to watch this movie. I'm afraid it'll make me dumber. I can't believe anyone would waste time on this.

Terminal - Great movie!
American History X Ditto to what you said.
I am Sam Loved it.
Love Actually I liked it. But then again, Hugh Grant and Rodrigo Santoro are in it. he he Wink

CdK, I'm surprised you didn't comment on that same cute little girl being in both I Am Sam and Man on Fire.

I definitely recommend Mystic River. A little predictable, but good acting.

Maria Full of Grace is very good, husker. I would take a pass on Collateral, but that's me. the Bourne Supremacy wasn't as good as the Bourne Identitiy but still worth watching.

I saw a few good movies lately, but I'm terrible at remembering the names.

Sorry, Craven, but judging a film by its appearance on a 1-inch screen is unfair... the limitations of your new toy will affect your experience more than the content of the material in the film.

It's like judging a symphonic piece based upon its rendition by a solo accordianist.
