Here is a quotation:

I am quite puzzled by the use of "on", "upon" and "at" in this sentence.
When I google them, the results surprise me a lot.

about 1,450,000 for "look back at"
about 756,000 for "look back on"
about 67,500 for "look back upon"

According to the google results, it seems to me that "look back at" is more favorable.

What do you think of the three prepositions in this phrase?

"Upon" is poetic
"on" is philosophical
"at" is introspective.......?

Look back at:

The looking is done by a dispassionate observer who doesn't mind the combination of "ck" and "ak".

Lock back on:

The looking is done by someone who has gained a certain perspective.

Look back upon:

The looking back is done by someone who takes himself very seriously.
