speaking of "getting ready for christmas" ...
in dec. 2004 we went on a hawaii cruise from san diego .

on dec. 12 we were enjoying a "christmas cocktail " (red for poinsettas - white for snow) at the HULA GRILL on honululu beach .

http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/8391/hulaiv9.jpg

on dec. 20 we arrived back home in eastern ontario just ahead of a massive snowstorm . we had to change planes in detroit and there was some doubt about making the connection - we could have enjoyed christmas in detroit Shocked
hbg

ps. during the rest of the year the cocktail is known as LAVA FLOW ! Wink

@hamburger,
Glad that I caught you and the Mrs., hbg. I dedicated this to you both on the radio thread, and how about one of those lava flows for me.

Last year, the medieval Christmas Market in the court yard of the Sachsen kings' palace was named as the most picturesque, most beautiful etc Christmas Market in Germany .... and shortly afterwards it burnt down.

They had to change the stalls, some details and a lot more until it was allowed to built it up again.

And again, it's a pretty alternative to the "traditional" Christmas Market (since than 560 years in Dresden!)

@Walter Hinteler,
Wow, that's a bit overwhelming.

I'm not really a fan of sweets but I'm sure I could find something tempting there. Now, The Empress would probably want to go there two or three times a day til she'd worked through their offerings.

The Christmas market in Dortmund is only 100 years (+) old - but claims to have the highest Christmas tree in the world

http://i38.tinypic.com/15pfkw1.jpg

40,000 lamps, 45 m high .... and made out of 1.400 fir trees.

Years ago, the Christmas market had the largest "light roof". And we were one of the first places to have an advent calendar in the windows (in the historic town hall). When we were there yesterday evening, our mayor was on the ice ring, too.
