Not including my own child, my favorite first name for a boy is: For a girl:
Funny things happen about favorite first names for boys and girls. When our first born was a boy, I named him Michael, because it was a 'strong' boy's name. His middle name is Toshiro for Toshiro Mifune, the actor. When our second son was born, I named him "Sean," because of Sean Connery, and his parts in playing James Bond. I was hooked on James Bond novels from the very first book, and got many of my friends hooked too. They were both popular names during those times, but they have changed many times since. I'm not sure what boys and girls names are popular today. c.i.
I don't have any children yet, but if I have a boy I'd name him Connor. It's a bit of a family name and I've always liked it.
I've always loved the name Charlotte for a girl, but it's a bit too 'heavy' maybe - I don't think I'd use it. Any of my girls might get their name picked out of a hat.
while they are overused i still like "motorhead" and "moonunit"
Well, I have no kids, but I have some favorite names.
The male ones: Otto, Helmuth, Fritz (or Friedrich), Wilhelm.
Female: Ingrid, Katharina.
Speaking of names
I once had a penfriend in Mexico called Jesus and I used to get the strangest feeling addressing my letters to Dear Jesus.
Quote:I used to get the strangest feeling addressing my letters to Dear Jesus.
This I can understand...were you living in the Bible belt?
Does New Zealand have a "Bible Belt?"
c.i.
Well if you live in Florida, it is state law that you must name girls either Tiffany or Amber.
I would name a girl Alexandra.
Not sure about boys.
Larry, "Amber" must be a popular name today, because our friend's daughter named their baby 'Amber.' Any more? c.i.
Well, addressing "Dear Jesus" was more relevant in the Middle East approximately 2000 years ago... Maybe, better to address the owners of such a first name by their family name, e.g. Mr. Ramirez or Mr. Rodriguez?
Jesus is a very common name in latin american countries (pronounced "heyzus"
Well, then what is the name of the Savior in Spanish?
The same.
c.i. They pronounce the "j" as an H.
For a Boy: Marcus or Alan, I've had good luck with people with that name.
Or Eric--as in Draven!
A Girl: Allison, same reason as the boys names. Or Maggie, as in the character from "Northern Exposure"
When I was a small child I met a girl named Becky Sue -----. She had such a sunny disposition and infectious smile that I carried her name with me until my last daughter was born. My daughter's name is Rebecca.
I love the names Emily and Anne for girls. For boys, Steven, Samuel, and Max. Why? Quien sabe?
Speaking of Emily and Anne, several days after I returned home from having major surgery, I was playing Trivial Pursuit with a friend. The question to me was, Name the three Bronte sisters. Something happened to my brain, something I attribute to the anesthesia. I remembered Charlotte and Emily, but the name Anne wouldn't come to me. So I guessed...Bambi. Wrong, but good for a laugh.

I like the idea of naming kids after actors/characters with similar or desirable characteristics. I also like the names of a great many (extinct?) G-ds on the
G-ds Database
I like the idea of having a name that few others would turn around to when you're called.
