Never mind someone else's opinion of "atmosphere", you bring that with you, nicht wahr.
It's carpeted, so that means it's not too echo-y and noisy, like some older places

And btw I think that map's a wee bit wrong, it IS just north of Lincoln's Inn Fields on High Holborn, i.e. nearer to the Tube than is shown on the map.

McTag, No wonder Penderel's Oak sounded familiar. Better late than never, heh? LOL Wink

And the ladies loos are fab.

If the next edition of the guidebook says "riotous atmosphere" you know the editor was there on the 1st May!

A good map to Penderel's Oak. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=530860&y=181576&z=1&sv=WC1V%207HP&st=PostCode&lu=N&tl=~&ar=y&bi=~&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf

CI - it's the 1st May.

As for time, should we say 12.30 to start arriving?

See? Told ya.

What an interesting and history-rich block of real estate that is, bounded by Aldwych, the Stand, Chancery Lane and High Holborn...containing the Royal Courts of Justice, the Land Registry Office, the Royal College of Surgeons HQ, more lawyers than you can shake a stick at, and much more besides. And Penderel's Oak boozer, of course.

I just remortgaged my house at a very low 5.5 percent interest to fund my trip to London in May. What's the cost of a cup of coffee and a glazed donut in London these days?

That should be enough, I suppose - perhaps, you might even get some change back ... for an (additional) cheap brandy

How much is cheap brandy in London? <smiles> Is there such a thing as "cheap beer" in London?

A coffee is £1.65, a donut £1.60 and a 'booze' from
per 50ml from £3.00 in a (seems to be) nice café, called the Troubadour.

Yup, just as I thought. Two years ago a cup of coffee and donut cost about US$5.00, but now it'll cost us $6.25, a 25 percent increase! OUCH!

Does this mean, you'd have to remortgage your garage as well?

BTW, people, I bought six baseball/golf caps in Vietnam and still have a few of those SF A2K caps that I'm bringing to share with you all - first come, first serve - except Walter gets first pick. ** With all the extra cash in my pocket from the remortgage, I've booked another cruise on the Insignia for November 7. It sails from Barcelona to Athens.
