I'm open to all suggestions, because nothing is set in cement yet. It probably won't make too much difference to me, but for the others, they may have families or friends they might wish to visit.
How about you and I sort of push this along, and see what comes of it? We can also get some others to participate in the initial stages to include more people's participation.
I fully agre with Thomas: Barcelona would be totally okay for me - but who would be able to organize meeting rooms, make to (precise) plannings etc etc from a foreign country? (And since I organsed a meeting myself, I know that you should be an "insider" )
Hi guys,
I can't see a problem booking a venue in Barcelona. All you need is a central hotel with a function room. E.g. Hotel Sant Augusti just off Ramblas. (The hotel itself is good value but single bedrooms are small)
I could be interested in a Barcelona meeting if the dates were last week of May 2007.
Regards fresco.
Thanks, fresco.
I suppose, everyone has some favourite time(s) re the date - after having attended a couple of meetings, I'm sure, many are interested but some can't make it ... e.g. due the finally chosen dates.
I still think, it's not only the "function room" which needs some 'local attention'. (That"s just my personal experience from the various London meetings, the one I organised myself at my own place, the recent Chicago meeting ...)
Besides, I imagine, we'll have lively discussions and suggestions for various places/times for some time until we/ll finally able to agree for something ...
I am interested in meeting a2kers in Europe but don't know about finances re next year. Wherever everyone decides is fine re city. I'm interested in Granada, Sevilla, Madrid, somewhat less in Barcelona (never been mad for Gaudi) but I'm sure my "less in Barcelona" is from ignorance. I know Dys really liked Malaga when he was there a few years ago.
Re finances, I would never consider going to all the way to Europe and not tucking in some fair amount of time in Italy, my main interest, so I'm looking at a big money total even though I tend to travel on the spare money side.
As for the local person, it sure helped in Chicago. A couple of us fairly locals helped a bit in San Francisco, but one of the biggest helpers, PDiddie, arrived from Texas. PDiddie and I (300 miles away from SF) spent days and a whole lot of posts checking out restaurants online for quietness - important in that group - good food, and unextreme prices. 3 of the 4 we ended up deciding on for different days did turn out to be quiet, have good food, be reasonably priced. We never had a meeting room as such, meeting in hotel lobbies and bars, restaurants and in some cases a few would meet in rooms.
As in Chicago, many expressed solid interest, but a smaller number (ten) showed up.
Re both Chicago and SF, we all found our hotels online..
what I'm getting at is that local help makes the place more knowable in subtle and not so subtle ways from a local view, but I can't see it as being mandatory for all a2k meetings forever more.
osso, Good points; but I must tell you that as an art lover, you'll love Barcelona.
I'm also planning to do traveling in Europe in addition to the a2k meet, so I'm still wide open for suggestions too.
Reading along, but it's way to early to commit. I'd love Barcelona, less interested in Munich, other than to see Thomas of course. Time and place will matter for us. I'll keep reading along as the discussion continues.
Shall I or someone start a new thread or is it way too early? The SF theads (there were two major ones) went on about a year, and the Chicago thread(s) was pretty long in the tooth, haven't checked the timing.
osso, It's probably a good idea to start a new thread with the proper heading to attract newbies and others that may consider the next one in Europe. As I said before, I think it behooves us to start early for people to make their plans for 2007.
First SF meeting thread, starting in April of the year before for what turned out to be an April meet -

Second thread re the SF meet -

Main Chicago meeting thread started in November, but the subscribers had a thread going on it for months before.

OK, I'll start it. It doesn't matter if I actually go to the get-together, in that I always follow all the meeting and travel threads in any case, getting, as I do, a lot of my jollies from vicarious travel. I'll put it in the Europe forum.
New thread here -

The first European gathering ....
@Walter Hinteler,
WOW! That's going back a few years. We must be getting older (and somewhat wiser).
