The secret slaughter of wolves from airplanes in Alaska is underway -
the greatest killing spree since the 1950's.

I say secret because the Board of Game and Governor Frank
Murkowski don't want the media to spotlight the carnage. They know
that last time the national media covered such wolf atrocities, public
outrage caused the barbaric practices to stop.

That's our challenge. Getting the story on national television news
shows and on the front page of newspapers.

We need to generate as much publicity soon as possible. If you guys have a few minutes, please send e mails to the following networks asking they report what's happening in Alaska. Thanks ~

Stradee,
Very informative link. I had noticed the same situation being brought to the forefront while clicking for rainforest. There appear to be no end of individuals who are willing to pay big bucks for bragging rights - albeit - the final telling most of the time is a stretch of the truth.

The sad point IMHO is that it's we humans who are to blame in having upset the balance that nature provided - and now - somehow - there is an increase in the wolf population because some other predator feeding on the wolfs menu has been depleted.

Danon, the problem in Alaska is the Caribu. Well, the animal isn't the problem - the hunting lobby and the Gov is the problem.

They say the Caribu herds are depleting because of the bears and wolves. Not true. The animals keep the eco-system in balance. The Governor instead of promoting ecological tours, caters to hunters in the United States <only 6%> and hunters from other countries <who knows how many> Bears are also being shot at an alarming rate.

Aerial shoots were banned by an overwhelming majority of Alaskans, then the gov decided to allow the shoots again. Go figure.

The last hunt was halted because of protests, so now - Alaska's trying to keep the hunt hush hush. Instead of 150 taken from the last shoot that was halted after protests, Alaska allowing 900 wolves shot from planes.

Alaska's making a bundle of money from trophy hunters renting aircraft, lodging, and purchasing guns and ammunition. Apparently more money than from the locals during caribu season.

Wolves take only animals that are sick, or old. Bears also take from the herds, but the same holds true. If an animal can outrun the bear, then it survives.

Nature keeps wildlife in balance as you well know. The hunt taking place in Alaska both horrific and unnecessary.

Stradee...
There was a story on the wolves on either MSNBC or CNN very early this morning around 2 or 3 AM Pacific time. I saw the headline for it right before I fell asleep. Don't know if it was repeated during the day or not, but at least something was reported by someone.

Thanks, Matrix. It has been quite a while.

Piffka,

Sorry I missed your birthday, as it is after midnight. But I know that you are getting ready to celebrate the winter solstice as well. Salute! to you, the pups, and the entire family.

Dog Rules For Christmas

1. Be especially patient with your humans during this time. They may appear
to be more stressed-out than usual and they will appreciate long comforting
dog cuddles.

2. They may come home with large bags of things they call gifts. Do not
assume that all the gifts are yours.

3. Be tolerant if your humans put decorations on you. They seem to get some
special kind of pleasure out of seeing how you look with fake antlers.

4. They may bring a large tree into the house and set it up in a prominent
place and cover it with lights and decorations. Bizarre as this may seem to
you, it is an important ritual for your humans, so there are some things you
need to know:

Don't pee on the tree... Don't drink water in the container that holds the
tree... Mind your tail when you are near the tree... If there are packages
under the tree, even ones that smell interesting or that have your name on
them, don't rip them open... And, don't chew on the cord that runs from
the funny-looking hole in the wall to the tree.

5. Your humans may occasionally invite lots of strangers to come visit during
this season. These parties can be lots of fun, but they also call for some
discretion on your part: Not all strangers appreciate kisses and cleans.
Don't eat off the buffet table. Beg for goodies subtly. Be pleasant, even
if unknowing strangers sit on your spot on the sofa -- they don't know any
better. Don't drink out of glasses that are left within your reach unless
you can get away with it...

6. Likewise, your humans may take you visiting. Here your manners will also
be important:

Observe all the rules in #4 for trees that may be in other
people's houses. (no peeing on the tree, is particularly important) Respect
the territory of other animals that may live in the house. Be nice to the
kiddies. Turn on your charm big time.

7. A big man with a white beard and a very loud laugh may emerge from your
fireplace in the middle of the night. DO NOT BITE HIM!!!

Merry Christmas -- WOOF!

SUMAC !!! Hi, and glad you are back....... I had a thought that you had been blown away by a hurricane.

Matrix,
Really nice set of rules - I like #7.

Stradee,
Thanks for the update. As I thought, it's the human factor that's upsetting the balance of things. I agree the aerial slaughter must stop.

Thanks for the updates ehBeth............

All clicked this Sat morning. Have a good weekend everyone.

Just finishing off my round of clicking. I had to stop a few times to send birthday cards to littlek <sssssssshhhhhhh - they're going to be surprises>

Love the rules, matrix! Luckily, Miss Cleo accessorizes well. She's going to be a vision in her baby antlers, pink cape with white faux fur trim and bobbles, and pink baby socks. Shocked Bailey MAY wear a lil scarf. He feels his manly need for a more basic wardrobe.

Didja know baby socks make good doggie booties/slippers? Little tiny ones for little tiny dogs. I picked up 8 new pairs of baby socks at Goodwill last weekend (I'm guessing the baby grew out of them before wearing them) - 4 sets of nice dog slippers for less than $2. Very handy when wet dogs are coming in from a walk.

Matrix, more than likely the report was repeated during the day. I've not seen anything here on local stations or on the internet <except for alerts from Defenders> Thanks for the update!!!

A colleague at work suggested the baby sock thing - she does it with her dogs. I'd already been going to Goodwill to get baby vests for the dogs to wear when it was slushy snow (about 1/10 the cost of buying a dog sweater) - Erroll at Goodwilll is getting used to me arriving at the cash register with towels, baby sweaters and vests, baby toys and saying "yeah. the dogs again".

Hey - sumac - good to see you - puter problems fixed?
