URGENT!

I need your help locating an accredited NON-PROFIT 501 C3 sanctuary for a wonderful hybred wolf named Mika. Howling Acres cannot adopt Mika now because their sanctuary cannot accomodate new animals, plus, they have a waiting list for many wolves in need of sanctuary.

Mika was brought to our shelter a few days ago - "owner surrender" for displaying aggressive behaviour toward his "owners".

Mika is a two year old hybred wolf huskey mix. Mika displays wolf behaviour, is very shy, but also today, Mika accepted treats from my hand <very gently>

I must tell you, Mika truly touched my heart. He's a wonderful animal that deserves living the rest of his life with his own kind. Mika also graced the kennel with "singing" today.

If anyone has information, please e mail me, and I'll send information about how to contact my supervisor <name, e mail, and telephone>

Mika only has a few more days before euthanization.

Thanks everyone ~ Shirley

<sigh of relief>

Defenders of Wildlife rocks!

Received contact information from Washington office and spoke with their Sacramento office where <bless their hearts> received a local contact sanctuary run by really terrific people. Mika may not be adoptable, but as of right now, his chances for finding a sanctuary looking good!

Mika's case unusual because of wildlife laws governng CA.

Keeping fingers, eyes, and toes crossed.

I exchanged a number of emails with Anita B's son today. They're all fans of Samaki chocolate now - and he's going to try to pick up the magazine that features the chocolate maker, to take in to Anita B. A bit of a coup - local chocolate maker, in small town Alberta, makes it into Fine Cooking! He also asked me to pass on the message that we should all do what we can to get our parents online.

Hi, everyone...

3rd time's the charm, right, so I'm expecting this post to stick before I get disconnected from the site or something similar again tonight... Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the new thread, Piffka!

Stradee...
Congratulations on finding a new home for Mika! I had a friend who years ago had a wolf hybred. It was a beautiful animal and very sweet, but it was also not what I would have considered a good choice for someone looking for a pet. There's a definite difference between domesticated animals and wolf hybreds, and the hybreds are still a lot more "wild" animal than not. As beautiful as they are, I wish people wouldn't breed them. More often than not, they end up with more than they can handle and situations like Mika's appear. Of, course "it's always the animal's fault for being so agressive" when in fact they are just being what they were always meant to be - a wild animal. It's a shame when egos get in the way and people do such things.

ehBeth...
Thank you for relaying the update on Anita from Stuart. I'm glad to hear that the chocolates were a big hit, but then did anyone ever have any doubts that they would be? Smile
