There's a saying that describes this kind of hypocrisy, Brandon. Can you remember what it is?

The reported probably deserved it, if we're being honest.

@shonabellefonte,
Your contention, without proof, is the antithesis of honesty.

Gianforte pays $50,000 to press group to settle assault of Guardian reporter
Quote:
Greg Gianforte, the Montana Republican who assaulted a Guardian journalist on the eve of his election to the US House of Representatives, has issued a full and unequivocal apology to the reporter and agreed to donate $50,000 to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

The congressman-elect apologized to the reporter, Ben Jacobs, in a letter received late on Wednesday as part of an agreement that settles any potential civil claims.
[...]
Gianforte still faces criminal charges over the altercation. If found guilty, he could be fined up to $500 or face a jail sentence of up to six months. He was expected to appear in Gallatin County justice court this week but was granted an extension to 20 June, according to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.

I wouldn't change a word of what I've said on this topic. This guy is a billionaire, or some ****, and someone who wants to maintain a good political image, so I can understand the expediency involved in this decision.

But it don't change the facts.

@layman,
This is precisely why you are never to be trusted, like oralloy, baldimo, gui, mcg , blatham, snood, ci, ... .

You hate facts. You flee from facts as fast as when the cops are chasing you.

HELENA, Mont. — U.S. Rep.-elect Greg Gianforte of Montana will plead guilty to assaulting a reporter the day before being elected the state's only congressman last month, a prosecutor said Friday.

The Republican technology entrepreneur will enter his plea in court on Monday, when he is scheduled to be arraigned and sentenced on the misdemeanor charge, Gallatin County Attorney Marty Lambert told The Associated Press.

@Walter Hinteler,
Well, Walt, you can bet your life that a plea agreement is in place. He won't be serving any jail time, that's for sure. Again, this would just be a simple matter of clearing his calendar for this guy. Forced returns to Montana in order fight a chickenshit misdemeanor charge just isn't worth the time, money, and effort.

Just to wrap this here thread up: Gianforte got his "sentence" yesterday. $365 fine (chikenfeed for his rich ass), no jail time.

The reporter has agreed not to attempt to seek civil damages (probably because he would lose, due to illegal trespassing, ya know).

I'm not sure, but I think it was agreed that he would pay his fine at the rate of a dime a day for 10 years.
