you have a keen sense of hearing, Spendi.
Somebody has to teach philosophy, don't you think? How will we educate our young otherwise?
That's too big a question.
yes, it is.......
tenure is an interesting subject though. I think university professors should have to prove themselves worthy on a regular basis.....on the other hand, that could become a popularity contest, inhibiting adcademic freedom......it's a big question, yes.
Lola:-
The miners went down in a popularity contest. So have steel workers.Recently 7,000 car workers.Just those three is about 200,000 here.
Yes-I would go for that applying to professors too.
It applies to editors,politicians,footballers etc.
They must know about this thread by now.Where are they. One would think they would defend themselves.
I think they're going to parties and lunches with each other and don't know much about the internet. Most of them probably don't even have cell phones.
And those are essential accoutrements for a modern philosopher. If they are doing without them it makes my case.
They must have heard by now.Grapevines and networks being what they are.
Have you taken afternoon tea yet?
No, but I had ice cream.......or I should say lemon sorbet and coffee at 4 pm. It was delightful.
see ya tomorrow.
Lemon sorbet & coffee Lola?
What on earth has happened to the American tradition of a big-big-big-mac, plus a bottle of tomato sauce, and a gallon of fizzy coke?
We are quite happy with our cucumber sandwiches (crust removed) and a dainty china cup of Earl G out on the lawn, whilst sporting with the horse-shoes.

sounds nice to me too, M. I don't eat Big Macs.......I have to keep my girlish figure.
Sheeeeesh! Dierdrie-I better go water the aspidestra.

Yes.........oh great Goggle motivator and teacher, perhaps you better. (kiss to you this morning). But I wasn't born on the night of a full moon..........and no silly druid can tell me how I shall live and what the impact of my love will have. Isn't it funny how Deirdria was blamed even though she advised wisely?......It was Naoise, the dark haired, fair skinned warrior of her dreams who was fooled by the King. What had sweet Deirdrie done but dream and fall in love? She was innocent, darling thing that she was. Interesting story of Ireland. I
am Irish, but not beautiful enough to inspire murder......and I'm not betrothed to a king. But if I were the Deirdrie of Ulster, I would be guilty.......as I always am.
hi spendy. wow. happy birthday for last novemver.
we are both water signs.
Queenie_
How have you arrived at that conclusion?
Could be drowler you know Spendius !
Spendius is a fictional character from a novel by a very well known spell-binder.
Have you no idea how stupid you look addressing remarks to an abstraction?
This is probably irrelevant but when i read Cambridge I had to add this (very biased very personal and possibly will get shunned by you all (edit)
viewers)
I love Cambridge. I love the law faculty there. Because of a certain special person there. If he's there and he says its the best, I hang onto his every word. What he says is gospel. So don't diss the university.
Have said enough. I will shut up now.
I AM NOT DROWLER!!
and i take that accusation as an insult because:
1. I can spell
2. I dont live in a caravan and pee in a bucket
3. I dont live in America
we are both water signs since you are scorpio and i am picies.
it was your birthday in november, since that was the day u posted saying 'it is my birthday today.'
and thats how i came up with that conclusion.
shoot, im tryin.
Queenie-
I was having a little jesty-westy about the baby talk of birfdays and the pwessies.
pragmatic-we hard pressed taxpayers have been watching, powerlessly, for too many years, the so-called "elite" universities dissing us goodstyle and now you have drawn our attention to the law faculty I may well include it in my remonstrances.
I am not overly fond of lawyers as a general principle although I do recognise their important contribution to our life-style.It is a well known legal principle here that in divorce cases the assets of the couple are divided equally;50% to the lawyers and 50% to the factions.
It is,however, worthy of note that not one important writer, going back to Rabelais, has had a good word to say about them and not a few, again going back to Rabelais, have depicted them in a similar light as one might beasts of prey.Juvenal in the first century of our era looked askance at the profession as Ovid himself was also wont to do.In modern times the most well known fictional
lawyers were the firm Sue,Grabbit and Run in our satirical magazine Private Eye.
In saying all this I am cognisant that Flaubert gave the conception of Spendius over to a rhetorician (lawyer basically) and a prostitute.
The above casts no aspersions on your esteemed friend who may very well be a shining light of integrity and virtue in what are undoubtedly deep and muddy waters. He may even rise to become Lord Chancellor and be able to decorate his chambers with £300/roll wallpaper as the last one recently managed to do, and he was only a socialist.
As I said,I do recognise that the legal profession is an important institution but I am at a loss to discover what the philosophers do so I think I will concentrate on them for now but thank you for mentioning lawyers and I will give your objective comments further thought.
Kind regards.
