Spendius.....
I bought the book
I'll read it on the plane returning home. Have we decided on a name for the thread?
I may not be home until late Monday
but I'll be back sometime early next week.
Lola:-
Yes.Francis started it.Plain "SALAMMBO".She had a flat face. She didn't need to be beautiful in view of the fact that Matho was a serious Eebie and he hadn't seen a washed and scented piece of tail in many a long month. So plain SALAMMBO suits just fine. And if Francis wants to claim he had this literary reading in mind when he chose it I won't be arguing with him.
I hope you enjoy the book as you snuggle up in the metal tube which conveys you across the fly-over states. The book as a bridge over troubled waters just like the plane.Nice.
Arrive safely.
I've read chapter one and the Introduction. It's excellent reading so far. Matho, poor soul is in misery. Spendius seems to be in control so far. He's a subversive little fellow......possibly not to be trusted. We'll see.
Lola:-
No man can be trusted when he's backed up against a wall and Spendius certainly is that.If you find any of us trustworthy it is only because we are not.We can afford to be decent.

If you're including women in this statement, I agree with you. No one can be trusted when backed against a wall....yes
Lola:-
I don't care to speak on behalf of women. It is much to presumptious.Mathosian even.
If anybody out there knows Mr John Carey perhaps they would be good enough to tell him about this thread. On here he could stick his Down With The Dons thesis up 'em with the minimum of editorial control.
That would be entertaining.
Mr. John Carey? Ummm, Spendi, do you mean John Kerry?
Oh Lola:-
I have really missed you.
I have been tangled up in your absence with a bunch of sex maniacs. It was horrible.

Oh you loved it. Please be honest!
A horrible sex maniac......a man's best friend.
See you tomorrow maybe. I'm still working like a mad woman.
spendius? Are we still trying to de-throne the CPD?
Lola:-
Hope you are well.
Gee-I had some fun yesterday,a day off here. That Trivia does my head in.
CPD? Sure! Why not?Smoke the buggers out is what I say.
I have to split just now but I'll be back. This is better than the pub.Not so many jackasses.
Maybe we should all get on at once and get blotto together.

Isn't that what we have been doing? Very funny.
Mr Appleyard is going after art critics.
That's a bigger job than ours.
Who, may I ask is Appleyard?
Brian.Sunday Times.Culture section mainly.Not bad.
Not great either.Bit of a wind-sock.
I have been wondering what action to take to remind hard pressed taxpayers that there are a large number of professional philosophers out there, not just in Cambridge, who live a nice and cosy existence at our expense without providing us with anything we can utilise in our daily lives unlike milkmen,binmen,can-can dancers and pub landlords.
Can anybody provide an explanation of what looks to be,on the face of it,a ridiculous state of affairs.
might they be thought of as entertainers?
That must be why I can hear the sound of one hand clapping then.
