good morning, oh most pleasant of the pleasant birfday boys.......the drilling on my apartment building (just above my window where I sit typing this message) is head ripping............so I'm going to the restaurant on the corner for breakfast. I'll be back later, hopefully when the drilling has stopped. See you later. And have a nice day, you ole sweetie......... Laughing

Lola:-

What does a Manhattan restaurant breakfast consist of and how much does it cost?It is important that you eat well and are not unduly extravagant.

You are so right. I had one egg, over medium and toast with coffee. It cost about $7.00. Double that and you get the final bill.....$17.00 + tax, with tip. When I came back home, I had a banana and a peach. Now I'm all hungry again.

What on earth are they drilling for Lola, oil?

I think you may have a point Spendius, for once, Drowler does come across in a similar vein to Queenie, mm consider this;

She's loosing her religion
Trying to get a message through
But it's hard.

Were you telling us something with the Birmingham bit Queenie, was it Birmingham Alabama you referred to?

Crafty girl..

pragmatic-we hard pressed taxpayers have been watching, powerlessly, for too many years, the so-called "elite" universities dissing us goodstyle and now you have drawn our attention to the law faculty I may well include it in my remonstrances.
I am not overly fond of lawyers as a general principle although I do recognise their important contribution to our life-style.It is a well known legal principle here that in divorce cases the assets of the couple are divided equally;50% to the lawyers and 50% to the factions.

It is,however, worthy of note that not one important writer, going back to Rabelais, has had a good word to say about them and not a few, again going back to Rabelais, have depicted them in a similar light as one might beasts of prey.Juvenal in the first century of our era looked askance at the profession as Ovid himself was also wont to do.In modern times the most well known fictional
lawyers were the firm Sue,Grabbit and Run in our satirical magazine Private Eye.

In saying all this I am cognisant that Flaubert gave the conception of Spendius over to a rhetorician (lawyer basically) and a prostitute.

The above casts no aspersions on your esteemed friend who may very well be a shining light of integrity and virtue in what are undoubtedly deep and muddy waters. He may even rise to become Lord Chancellor and be able to decorate his chambers with £300/roll wallpaper as the last one recently managed to do, and he was only a socialist.

As I said,I do recognise that the legal profession is an important institution but I am at a loss to discover what the philosophers do so I think I will concentrate on them for now but thank you for mentioning lawyers and I will give your objective comments further thought.

Kind regards.

I'm sorry - I don't know what got into me, to tell you the truth. Forget my post, I saw the word "Cambridge" and all my personal feelings came tumbling out. It was irrelevant and I realise I am not one to talk, considering I don't even live in the UK so I have no idea of the circumstances there. apologies, my post was uncalled for and not required.

You could be Drowler, Queenie, you have difficulty spelling at times and have a similar outlook in life to our American friend. Do you, or have you ever been 'skinny dipping' in The Serpent?

I take that as an insult. im not a dunce. I have an IQ of 145 actually.

So hows that spendy?
Explain what you mean by myself having the same outlook on life? I didn't know drowler had an outlook on life...

Queenie:-

Who are you asking?I said nothing about your outlook on life.

drowler doesn't have an outlook on life because drowler doesn't exist. It is a literary conceit and a very poor one at that.

What's cooking?

i meant to say that to mathos.

I am undecided about drowler, I dont live in America.
I do think it highly unlikely he would have access to a computer though.

I had the impression that the fictional drowler is supposed to be a "she" but written by a D-head.
