I just got an email from a site I must have signed up for in my sleep, but I like it, a lot. I wish I could just link for you the page that engaged me, but I can't: I just have the main site, artupdate.com, and then then individual galleries listed URLs.
Artupdate.com is a site that does a calendar, with international entries by date. The calendar I checked, rather late, it has been in my Inbox for a while, is from Nov 1 - 15, or thereabouts.
I checked some of the gallery links out, almost yawning, but then I started to get really interested. For example, on Nov. (x), there is a listing for Senior & Shoemaker. I never heard of them, but Siah Armajani and Mary Miss are among their artists... the gallery site has a nice design, and you can explore the artists' work..
and just after that, the Haines Gallery, which I never heard of either. Very interesting.
I might recommend that if you explore the artupdate.com site, if it looks boring, click on something, it is probably a lead-in to the listings.
Well, that is one site for art news. Do any of you have another one you like?
Osso
Somehow I happened upon this guy's site. I'm jealous of what he can do. His ability to create 3D is incredible.
http://www.kurtwenner.com/ble.
Let me know what you think. If you can't get the site from here his name is
Kurt Wenner Master street painter.
He isn't just a street painter, he worked for NASA for a while, and that ain't all.
Haven't looked at it yet, but that is another (no, not tangent, but another topic we could start.) What I am talking about here are general sort of sites that list a lot of exhibits and show some photos of work in the exhibits... not one person's website, or their gallery's website, or an article about one person. This is meant to be a more general thread.
Not to put you off on this present topic, but to suggest you start another thread, on websites you've stumbled across with artists' work that you like. We have to be careful here, we don't want to be shills of selfpromoters...
but given that is us who already know each other we could consider how to do it. The Mods may have an opinion, as we don't want to be an advert site.
I see, but I wasn't advertising for him, he dosen't need my help :-)
I just wish I had his talent.
I'm sure a2k doesn't think you are advertising him.
If you don't want to start another thread on it, I will, but not tonight, manana.
I guess I need to make it a clickable link, back in a moment -
http://artupdate.com
OK, that works, just click on almost any line...
i used to like ASKart.com . it was a great resource about living artists as well as auction prices realized for listed artists. Unfortunately they went into a subscription service for the trade and they became rather pricey. I check in and use them when i have an auction ahead and there are works by Pa Bucks County artists or Emille Gruppe. (I like to see what the most recent auction prices are)
I ran across a note to myself about a site JLNobody mentioned a while ago. I clicked on it and it looks interesting, so I signed up -
http://www.artdaily.com
http://www.designtaxi.com/
This is more for the design community, but you find odd artists that obviously do design or illustration for a bit of that stuff we need to live.
There are some interesting things on here, but not in the traditional art sense.
I'll look at it - I do landscape design and fine art myself. Besides, my interests are fairly broad...
Huh, that looks interesting, I added it to my favorites list to look at it more closely.
Here are a couple to check out:
www.absolutearts.com
www.artnews.com
www.trumalia.com
A lot of the same artists came be found throughout all these sites and there are also news updates on the first two.
Interesting thread, Osso. Thanks. I havn't gone through it (the links) yet, but I look forward to some interesting hours on it.
I haven't looked at the recent ones either (today is turning out to be my architectura news day), but I want to thank Reeneymonkey for picking up on this old thread, and promise to look at the links.
I posted about another one somewhere else recently, specifically about southern California. Something like artsceneca - I know, it's over on the new gallery and museum exhibits thread. I like that one so far.
Ah, that one specific to southern California is artscenecal.com...
I signed up with Artscenecal a long time ago--I believe at your suggestion (?). I've been receiving their annnoucments of shows regularly, mostly Los Angeles.
Huh. It mustn't have dented my consciousness...
I just noticed it (again, I guess) recently doing some googling, and then one of the first things I saw announced was an old friend having a show.
interesting thread

we could use some new info here, Vivien....
My artupdate.com site got more complicated and I've lost enthusiasm.
I'm not as savvy with sites as you all who have been following them for ages.
There are some interesting blogs out there ..... interested in any of those? (not the self obsessed type but interesting)
Katherine this one for instance - random thoughts, exhibition/class reports, images, interesting links etc. someone I know via the net in London.
