A very sober scientist and a very sober theologian...the best of Freeman Dyson:
(While I don't share some of his views I like his thinking process)

Revisiting The Summers and the "first age", excellent narration on the Rise and fall of civilizations!

At our current day and age the fall of the great capital of Ur, the fall of Summer and Arcadia gives us pause to think of our own wilful demise, as the ever present grinding wheel of time repeats itself ruthlessly on the short term attention span of our Human nature...

Well worth taking a look at this one episode on the fall of civilizations.
An African account of its lost golden age, one that is not cohesively known by many.

This one is an old video that I have seen a couple of times already over the years...another one well worth re-watching time to time.I like it because its implications and its foundational work gives though on all domains of human knowledge, not just Physics!

This guy really annoys me with his selective data points. It almost seems like he is getting paid to say all this stuff...either that or he suffers from some distorted form of autism.
He confuses technology and Industry with Civilization and progress, he says nothing about anxiety and alienation anonymity and loneliness. He is oblivious to the almost exponential growth of mental illness everywhere in first world countries. No stance on how flimsy and ill defined Ethics is these days in Corporate environments and their grip on public thinking...no word on how little people care to participate and engage in actual politics or simply vote rather then sticking with superficial tribal warfare...the whole dystopian plethora of phenomena that modern life bestowed upon us does not exist in his mind...one of the most intriguing Sophists of modern day an age no doubt...Pinker is a case study!

@Albuquerque,
I don’t think she’s helping him get any closer.
Did you notice she said 'to 'see' what it was like'. They are both still in the mind set of the dispassionate observer watching others as if they are lab rats.

Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but you have to be willing to become the lab rat to be honest about ‘getting closer'.
