Well, here's the plan!
Look for a slightly rotund Nelson, in a 3-cornered hat, in a Cheesy place, in a corner, looking a tad silly, sitting with a seriously drinking Indian in a banking suit, at 6pm! Joining them will be one pretend Japanese tourist, one sober and sensible (so far) German, one pseudo-Scot, one old style rocker and ........

Have a drink for me, lads!

Walter
Are you saying I've got pointy ears and a thick coat? Smile

BTW I thought anyone meeting strangers in London had to wear a bowler hat and carry a rolled umbrella and a copy of The Times, shaken not stirred.

Just checked again on Pete's pub, Ye Old Cheshire Cheese in Fleet Street, here is the link:

http://www.professorharbottle.co.uk/pub/londoncity/cheshire.html

Sounds good to me.
From 6 o'clock Pete, yeah?

Feeling like Joswell and Bonson already.
Bon voyage, everyone.

I'm going to be staying at my brother's so I think I might invite my sister-in-law Carole to come too if that's OK. My brother can babysit. Carole's better company anyway Wink a good laff.

How do you say "the more, the merrier" in German, Walter? Je mehr, desto munterer?

Just thinking of "je öller desto döller" which unfortunately means 'the older they are, the wilder the party'.

Your translation, McTag, is correct however (thanks to Friedrich!).

All right - let's recap - in light of further and better information:
We still have Nelson (no argument over that); Gautam, in his banker suit, drinking, lamenting the state of cricket in India (given up on England) and whether they will survive the Aussies again!; one Irish Japanese American, with 3 assorted cameras, and looking like a photographic porcupine; one apparent Scot, speaking some incomprehensible language, and sounding vaguely threatening, but about what, I dunno; one sister-in-0law to aforesaid Scot - for the fun!; our favourite sober and sensible German; and possibly an old rocker rugger-bugger who doesn't care for cricket - and no wonder with the state of the game in England!
And, anyone else that's around!

Hmmmmmm

I'm not in Europe until June, and even then, haven't decided about London. Anyone want to meet me in Stockholm?

Thanks for the milk offer - but His Supreme Highness the Possum-cat doesn't drink milk!

Kp, you da' man !!
Yeah the Curry house will be booked - we will just bundle into cabs and get there, it is just off Marble Arch.

Margo dahling, can't lament the state of cricket in India right now. It seems that they are the only ones who can stop the mighty aussies right now, and we are just itching for revenge.

Hmm..I don't normally wear banker's suits unless I have a customer/senior management meeting - but I guess I have to keep up appearances on the A2K meet <GRIN>

OK,

I visited the Cheshire Cheese at lunchtime today. They can't book us an area for such a small number, however, the Cellar Bar (subterranean section of the pub) opens at 17:30 so I suggest we meet there at 18:00.

I can't guarantee the hat, but at least you all know what I look like from my avatar. I'm guessing Gautam's picture was taken some time ago!

I really hope I'm not working out of town on that day (I have been recently). I'm very much looking forward to seeing you all.

I'll be there - I just might be a bit late. I hope not.

Where's my avatar gone? I'll have to find it.

Pete

Have a look here:
http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5007

Well, I might come a little later as well: hoping the plane is in time and doesn't land somewhere else, I need some time for binding my tie, getting acclimatisised to British climate, left hand traffic, no-Euro currency, etc etc

Fine, no problem but Walter and I might be a little late. We have to find each other, check one or the other is not Saddam Hussein, and get into London from Stansted at 1600.

Walter will have a glass of mineral water (still) and I will have a pint of Sam Smith's best bitter please.

Danke

Walter will NOT have a glass of mineral water BUT of bitter lemon (and in the restaurant 'Indian Tonic water', I think).

BTW: you know that Saddam has a couple of doublegangers? (This is a German word!)

Steve, No worry. I'm familiar with all manners of how dates are posted. Besides, if 20/03/03 is not March 20, 2003, all of us will continue to be total strangers. Wink c.i.
