The best way to a long and healthy life is to avoid doctors. So says California's oldest woman, Margaret Russell, who has just celebrated her 112th birthday in her home town of Eagle Rock.

Only once has she been attended by a doctor herself - and that was because she could do nothing to stop him.

She was briefly unconscious, having fainted some half-a-century-ago, when the doctor came to her aid.
