How come you feel over =?
T-tripped = ?
Gesture at = gesture with?
Context:
'How come you feel over, son?' said Uncle Vernon, in an unnaturally quiet voice , the kind of voice he might adopt at a bedside of a very ill person.'
'T-tripped,' said Dudley shakily. "And then -'
He gestured at his massive chest. Harry understood.
(From Harry Potter)
1. Don't know what 'feel over' means. It may be a regional dialect.
2. The 'T-tripped' just indicates that Dudley was stuttering as he said 'tripped.' The explanation that he said this shakily indicates he was flustered and stuttering.
3. In this case, 'gestured' just means he pointed to his chest or indicated his chest by some physical gesture.
Dudley says he fell over. It's a typo in your copy, Oristar... I know the books.
Thanks Merry Andrew and Wy.
Wy, you were right! That was a typo!
Gesture at means he made a hand gesture directed at something, gesture with means that he made a gesture with a specific body part and does not specify the recipient of the gesture.
