We arrived yesterday, and it quickly warmed up our bones and spirit. It's around 80 degrees year round. We checked into the Ala Moana Hotel for 3 nights, then will move to my sister's condo on Mon. Her husband has been sick, but getting well.

@edgarblythe,
Hi Edgar, we're going to the convention center today to look at their arts and crafts. It's good that my brother-in-laws health is improving, because we'll get a chance to spend time together.

I'm in New York where it's overcast and nippy. Enjoy your time in Hawaii and have as good a time as you can!

@cicerone imposter,
Don't let your wife find your lawnmower.

@roger,
For those of you who have visited Honolulu, the old International Marketplace is no more. They have a new one across the street, and it's filled with luxury shops on two levels.
It's gotten difficult to walk around Waikiki at my age in this heat. We didn't visit our usual haunts.
Nothing special about the festival at the convention center today, but it was predominantly Japanese with many booths sponsored by Japanese companies and cities. They had some entertainment from Japan and Taiwan.

@roger,
Roger, I don't work around the house any more. My wife has a housekeeper and gardener take care of things.

@cicerone imposter,
The mower is for the gosh darn grass skirts.

I guess Army humor didn't make any inroads in the Air Force.

Sheesh!

@cicerone imposter,
Great. I hope you got to enjoy the Honolulu Festival this weekend. I live here and never get to go to it, got other things to enjoy.

@seac,
We went to the festival, and enjoyed it, but the majority of the displays were Japanese. Nothing wrong with Japanese, but we were expecting "local" arts and crafts.

@cicerone imposter,
Since you are in Waikiki, there are lots of local shows going on in the evenings. Look up the newspaper ads and there will be something that might interest you. The Honolulu Festival does have a lot of Asian displays as does the bigger Pan Pacific Festival coming up later.

@seac,
Thanks. Locals told us about the robotics at the Bishop.

@cicerone imposter,
We visited the Bishop Museum, and saw the history of the islands, the royals, and the migration from Asia. Even many tv programs are from Asia, and signs around Waikiki are in English and Asian languages. While walking around Waikiki, one can hear many speaking in Japanese.
Also, Waikiki is one of the few places with a Chinatown. I bought 3 wooden combs for $5. It's easier on my scalp.

@cicerone imposter,
I've gotten to the point where I don't have to comb anymore.
