Yeah, there are a lot of good points there.
Sigh.
Gawd, the idea of Brett as a Viking... <retch> (And I'm from Minnesota..!)
Important announcement!

Man, that's a homer call if ever there was one.
(Says this grew-up-in-Northern-California-when-Montana-was-winning-Super-Bowls kid...)
So, I was riding around to Wisconsin dairy farms working on cows when Favre's retirement announcement happened. A couple of times I told these crusty old cheeseheads, while standing around in the barn waiting for something or other to happen, "I'll believe Favre's retiring on at the kickoff of the first game of the season."
Both times these guys went OFF -- "Brett would never go back on his word!", that sort of thing...
Shitkabob, is what I say. What a drama queen. Are you playing or not?
or perhaps a cold climate -- chicaahgo maybe?
I've heard the Redskins floated as a possibility. They'll be running the west coast offense this year, and who can you sign who knows it like Favre?
...and improvise when some receiver or lineman forgets the plays?
Peter King (SI) thinks Brett will play for the Packers. I like the way he thinks.
Gus hasn't posted in more than a week. He must be on vacation. He would have a lot of fun with this issue.
If Favre plays for the Pack this year, you can kiss Rodgers and the prospective leader of this young team for the next ten years goodbye.
What if Brett the interception machine shows up again this year, and decides halfway through the season he's tired and really doesn't have the desire to play anymore?

Absolutely. In comes this young stud thinking he will lead the team forward, but the old bull refuses to go away.

I guess human growth hormone and steroids can only go so far in a washed-up, prima donna has-been.

And what drugs are you taking? Asswipe pills?
If only there was a daily pill.
I still have to deal with that manually.
I don't remember who it was, but I saw a snippet from a Packers DB all through the 90s, and since he's retired he doesn't have to play politics. Just said, "Look, Brett got himself into this situation. If he can still play, he should show up to camp and win his spot back. Otherwise, he just needs to shut up about it."
Or something along those lines.
I mean, if the coaching staff sees that Rodgers isn't going to be effective, then they've got to play Favre (assuming he'll still be effective). And if Rodgers is going to be effective, they need to play him now or he's going to split at the end of the year. (Isn't he a restricted free agent at the end of this season?)
The Journal-Sentinel says he hasn't filed yet though:
NFL: Favre did not file for reinstatement today
By Greg A. Bedard

Green Bay - A league spokesman said minutes ago that the NFL did not receive a reinstatement request from Brett Favre today.
However, the spokesman added "he can send the paperwork in at any time. He would still need to be reinstated by the commissioner before he can report to camp."
Presumably, the league's fax machine works on weekends.
