Cool, Jake!

Yes, I keep pushing aside that thought. There was a quote in today's paper about how he'd been waiting 17 years for a snow game like that at Lambeau (it's his first one? I'm surprised). IF if if they win the Super Bowl, would he figure this is a great team and he wants to come back for another year, or would he figure that there's no better way to go out...?
I know he has to retire sometime.
Anyway, NFC championship on the frozen tundra, whoo!
If the Cowboys fans want to see the NFC Championship Game, they have to make amends, "walking across the tundra, mile after mile" to the parish of St. Alphonso (where Frank stole the margarine).
God, I love this.
Made fun of the Cowboys' fans all workday long.
brett wasn't the only emotional one yesterday --
i hope someone got the man a kleenex...
Ok Cheeseheads, and non-Cheeseheads really, whaddya think? It's supposed to be below zero and windy Saturday night. Popular belief is that, when The Frozen Tundra is literally a frozen tundra, it adds to the Pack's home field advantage.
However, in this instance, I say the conditions benefit the Giants, or, as I prefer to call them, the 'Ginas. Why? Wind and cold handicaps the passing attack. There is certainly wiggle room if you consider that Brett has thrown less deep balls this year and his receivers gain huge yards post-catch. But if weather renders this a running contest, our main threat is cancelled, as is the the potential that Eli will revert to his early-season self under pressure. Our weakness, run defense, will be exposed.
The weather might even things up.
Hmm.
It'll be a home game -- that's always huge in and of itself.
There's Ryan Clark.
Good point about yardage after receptions -- could easily be a bunch of little ones.
I bet the defensive guys are fired UP -- Bigby et al.
I know Brett doesn't actually like the cold and wind but he has fun when it frustrates the other team too and it becomes your basic old-timey tough-it-out ugly game.
Definitely don't think it's a slam-dunk, but I'm hopeful.

I guess you didn't notice Grant grabbing 200 yards in last week's whiteout? Or Seattle grabbing 28 total yards rushing on 18 attempts? We averaged 6.7 yards a carry compared to Seattle's 1.6. Since winning the starting job; Grant has been second only to LT in production. I, for one, do not fear "running game conditions".
His name is Grant, darlin.
Feel better soon.
((((((sozobe))))))
Packers only gave up 6 rushing TDs all year. I wouldn't call that their soft point. And as far as GB's passing attack goes -- cold weather's not going to hamper the short game, and NY's secondary is beat to hell. I don't see any reason they can't run the same chaotic spread pass attack they've been using, especially now that Grant's an established threat and NY's safeties can't just play center field. And I'm not even sure if they can field a decent nickel package right now. Could end up being a field day for Jennings and Driver on the little 8-9 yard routes.
That huge NY running back scares me, though -- that Jacobs is a beast. And I've seen Al Harris gamble too much in big games -- I can see him getting burned, and I can also see him hitting up Manning for a pick-6.
Should be a good game, though. Both teams have changed a lot since their regular season meeting...
****.
At least it ups the chances of Brett coming back one more year... what a way to go out.
I hate sports.
And I dare anyone (you know who you are) to start talking ****. At the risk of sounding immodest, my wit is particularly cutting when I am so angry I could crush a kitten's skull. So like, that's your warning. I'm serious-ish.
I may turn on the Superbowl at halftime to watch Tom Petty flash his tits. Or maybe the Mac and PC guys will make out at last. Otherwise, who gives a ****?
just want to say that i was rooting for the packers and am almost as sad as the rest of you

Yeah, that was my response pretty much exactly. "**** this, I'm never watching another football game, who needs the heartbreak?" My family actually watched this one with me and while I tried to keep myself in check... well, let's just say my daughter went and got a brown paper bag for me to breathe into. (She was joking. Mostly.) God, excruciating.

What's sad is, even if they won at the last second, I didn't enjoy myself for most of the game. Of course, I would feel a LOT better than I do this morning. Though some of the sting has worn off. I just now have to acknowledge, as I do every year that the Packers are not in the championship, that the Superbowl is nothing more than a disgusting media orgy leading up to a lame four-hour collage of Americana: pituitary freaks flexing their biceps, fireworks, guitars, and tits.
So. I'm still a bit grumpy.
Me too.
I think I would've been happy about the game if the Packers won, though. Just the great Brett-Driver play would have been enough, if they actually pulled it out.
I said something last night like fate wrote Brett this great script -- tie game, 2 minutes left in the second quarter, frozen tundra, a score pretty much ensures a trip to the Super Bowl, other team misses opportunities to take the lead, etc. -- and he just flubbed his lines. He so had it.
Arrrgggggh.
I also predicted the interception though. "He's nervy, the stakes are super high, it's super incredibly cold, he never really got into a rhythm this game." I said that before the interception + fumble (that was about when my daughter got the paper bag I think -- I may have been beating my head against the carpet, I don't quite remember) and hoped that'd be that.

This whole rennaissance has been a truly unique experience, in that it's like one of my boyhood heroes has been raised from the dead. That sounds dramatic. But seriously, I was 13 YEARS-OLD during Brett's first year with the Packers! The only better scenario would be if Robin Yount came out of retirement and helped the Brewers win the pennant. Or if Kurt Cobain came back for a reunion tour with Nirvana. Maybe this will help explain my disappointment.
