Rockhead, we need your picks over on the A2K NFL thing. And don't tell Soz that, so far, 8 of us have chosen Dallas and 6 have gone for Green Bay.

It's truly miraculous what steroids, human growth hormone, EPO, and the old standby vicodin, can do for the career of a washed up, over the hill quarterback.

I'd like to see Favre undergo a comprehensive drug test like those administered to professional bicycle racers in Europe.

Hell, for that matter, I'd like to see all of the players in the NFL undergo that kind of testing.

he just turned 38 -- plenty of QB's have excelled into their late 30's/early 40's.

i'm not saying he's clean, but am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

don't they all get tested regularly now?

You know you've become a legend when all the sniveling haters start crawling out of the woodwork.

Go Pack!

Heh, no kidding.

Brett's not stronger or throwing harder or longer or anything than he's been all along -- he just finally has healthy receivers to throw TO, a decent line to give him some time, a decent (minimally) running game (to help spread out the defense), and a really good defensive unit to help take the heat off of him (stopping the other team from making points, or making points of their own with returned interceptions, etc.)

The NFL's drug testing program is a joke, especially as compared to the standards set by the World Anti-Doping Agency to which the Union Cycliste International adheres to.

Favre's been a sniveling crybaby since before his superbowl winning days on through to his vicodin, monkey-on-the-back days, throwing tantrums at officials, demanding that they flag legitimate hits that defenders would put on his ass. I've never seen a bigger sissy in the NFL. He'll be remembered as much for his bitching and kvetching on the field as for any performances thereon.

With that said, here's hoping his injury tonight isn't too bad.

Except not really.

Which is why nothing you mentioned above is ever written or uttered by anyone with a legitimate interest in sports, and instead all you hear about are Favre's 3 MVPS, Superbowl ring, and consecutive starts. I'm not saying popular consensus always equals the truth, but we're talking about how Favre will be remembered.

He's already said he'll be back next week. Sissy? Really? Hate the game, not the best quarterback in the history of football.

I dig it, and I've never even been a Favre or Packer fan. I dig that it's happening with a different kind of offense, a whole new take on the game. Probably it's a strategy that'll be like when the Sacramento Kings did it with the reinvented Princeton offense a few years back, and get them far but not all the way, but it's cool to watch. Five guys protecting the ball, five receivers swarming the width of the field for 8 yards out, and an old guy who's learned something from a lot of mistakes distributing the ball.

(It's the kind of offense that could work in the choreographed lateral here and there to break big plays at key moments, but the NFL may not be ready for such a retro notion yet (except out in Boise, I mean)).

I know what you mean!

I was doing various things around the house and then had a "dammit it's Sunday the Packers might be on!!" moment and ran to turn on the TV. About 4 minutes were left, they were way ahead, and Brett (injured-10-days-ago Brett) was laughing and smiling and obviously having a great time. I was bummed to have missed so much of the game but hey, they were way ahead, they were at Lambeau, Brett's having fun, that's all good. Then they keep meandering down the field and then it's a nice toss to Lee and then Lee dodges and weaves and stiff arms and dang it's a touchdown!! 48 yards or something, and a dandy Lambeau Leap to top it off.

There was a montage of Lambeau Leaps later in the game... excellent. (I wonder if they lowered that wall or something? I know that it was dauntingly high recently -- people were being dragged up, they couldn't do the Leap-up-and-sit-on-the-wall thing.)

Anyway, I know we have to go through Dallas first and that Dallas isn't a trivial obstacle, but I'm loving the idea of Patriots vs. Packers in the Superbowl -- soulless robots vs. scrappy ragtag band of passionate goofballs.

I saw that montage. The best was, I think, they were playing Robert Brooks' (remember?) song from '97, "Jump in the Stands." I love that ****.

Shocked Sozobe... thank you kindly for obliterating that nonsense from The a**hole of Texas. Hope you read the whole story; it was beautifully done.

My BF Jeff, Johnny and the boys and I made the pilgrimage to Detroit last month to celebrate Thanksgiving in style. The mighty Packers delivered an early Christmas Present, that was exactly what I wanted. Great game.

As an aside; people should lay off Detroit (the city). It's laid out nicely, and the crappy hotel (The Leeland) we stayed in was plenty safe (10 minute walk to Ford Field). The MGM Grand was a 5 minute walk, and no one harassed us (other than in fun) despite the abundance of Packer paraphernalia on our persons. Frankly, we were treated more hospitably than we were last time we went to Tampa to worship.

Go Packers!
