Yep, a pattern of selection. ;-)
Does "serving" make you a better politician?
Only thing I can think of is that having actually been at the pointy end of a war might make you less gung ho about getting into them?

Did you cut and paste this from discussanything.com or did you take the time to do the research? Just wondering since the list is exactly the same and is all over the internet..........hummm do I sense some sort of a organized liberal consp..................help
well there was a thread posted by a rightwinger that asked why don't Democrats fight...think this list proves that some demorcrats do..lol...don't know how you can think it is a consp....lol but i'll chuckle along with you ...LOL

I have seen this exact same list on 300 other websites. If there was 1 more democrat that served so be it, I only wish that I had the time to make a list of republicans that served.
Quite a few Republicans were left off the list - I actually did look some up (out of curiosity, but learned some interesting things in the process) and posted them on another thread (maybe that one willowt mentioned - can't remember).
In the interests of full disclosure, the list was e-mailed to me by a friend (a retired US Navy officer) who likes to share a joke with me now and again. I agree with Craven -- the list is selective. However, I would venture to guess that if a statistically valid survey of government figures were to be assembled, you'd find that the number of veterans among those in power includes far more Democrats than Republicans.
Bob Dole was a notable exception. Anf he's one of the few Repubs that I genuinely liked and admired. The inclusion of Ronald Reagan, with a smirky comment, seems gratuitous to me. Reagan did wear the uniform during WW II. If an eye condition made him ineligible for front line duty, that's not his fault. I notice that President Dwight D. Eisenhower is not included in the list of GOP biggies either. Nor Colin Powell, for that matter.
I don't know what the inclusion of John Wayne and Bill O"Reilly signifies. They're not in government and their connection to politics is quite tenuous.
But, as the GOP drum-beaters on this site are forever taking a hwkish stance and belittling the mettle of the Democrats, I thought the list was worth posting.
The Republicans in the highest echelons of government are well represented on the list. He he.

Don't b*tch about it, do it. Saying things like "I wish I could get a list of repubs who served" doesn't cut it. Instead of spending your time posting, spend some time researching the facts yourself. Maybe you'll be more informed in the future if you take this approach.

I know you are what an I.
Hillary Clinton----Scum bag lawyer
Bill Clinton ------Scum bag lawyer
John Edwards-----Scum bag lawyer
I see another pattern.

More informed about what? Are you saying that a republican has never served in the military? All I am saying is that this "list" is self serving for the demoncrats, it has been posted by mindless minions all over the internet, and is so selective that it's pitiful. If you want to do the research go for it, I have nothing to prove to myself about the republican party.
There is an ancient legend regarding the origin of American politics, albeit from the annals of cryptozoology, not an exact science. It tells that the two party system was born from the mating of two similar, but different creatures, one with the head of a hawk and the ass of a dove, the other with the head of a dove and the ass of a hawk. What brought them together was the realization that at the end of the day, they both pooped guano. Guano was once harvested for fertilizer, even in Utah, but it proved an inefficient business venture in the end.

I have heard this too except that the demoncratic party was born with the head up the ass.
I do prefer 'demoncratic' to 'demmunist', but I am not American, and non-partisan. From what I've seen so far, and read, I don't really think it will make one iota of difference whether Bush or Kerry are elected.
people from all parties and all walks of life serve... each with their own individual reasons for doing so...
Some for good intentions and some for not so good intentions... we should just leave it at that dont you think?
Just curious as to why the list you provided most those people only served 3 years in a guard type status? And that somehow makes them true patriots? Better than the average republicanor third party person?
The military isnt for everyone....
* John Kerry: Lt., Navy 1966-70; Silver Star, Bronze Star with Combat V,
Purple Hearts.
V device on a bronze star... would love to see why that was awarded....
Armyvet35, as to why the list I provided is the way it is, pls see my disclaimer on the previous page. I didn't make up the list. Just passing it on for what it's worth. I make no claims for its completeness or thoroughness. Again, see my previous post.
