O'Bill - thank jeanbean for mentioning this. I'd heard about this - but forgotten in the whole Hallowe'en prep frenzy.

This thread is great for keeping up on interesting global events.

I am attuned to celestial events.
Whether I can be outside when the moon turns dark red,
is another matter.
I am usaully in bed by the time totality reaches NJ.
Those West of me, could have a better shot at it.
Take pix!

I just got off the phone - talking to Setanta.
He's got a great view of the eclipse - hopefully he'll come by and tell us about it later.

I went out with the dogs for a while to see what I could see. It's fairly overcast here, so I was catching glimpses of the eclipse in progress. Annoying - and kinda neat at the same time. The clouds were moving in and out, and in between the moon was hiding more and more.

It's almost all the way now... kind of rusty looking. I might have too much light pollution here to see it get really red, but it is crystal clear outside. I tried a Photo, but my digital camera isn't nearly good enough to capture the details. I'm the news will get some good shots.

It looks good here in Texas - especially out here in the country away from any lights.

Quite a sight.

Here, too. Not as bright as I thought it might be, but the changes as the earth's shadow began to eclipse that silver moon were way cool.

We've had the perfect night to watch -- only a couple of thin clouds on the western horizon.

Piffka, we were fortunate the weather cleared for the eclipse. My house surrounded by a pine forest, but found a great viewing place on the road and shot some photos. Gosh, what a neat sight, huh?

Hamsters holding back email updates again? I forgot all about the eclipse, but was watching "The West Wing" anyway.

Tidbit from care2 (if it is still in my thingamabob):

Halloween is generally thought to date back to 700 B.C.
to the Celts in rural England, Ireland and Scotland. On
November 1, the first day of their new year, the Celts
celebrated a festival called Samhain ("sow-in"), which
signified the end of the harvest season, the onset of
winter, and a day of the dead.

I saw the Hunter's Moon, with my own eyes, but failed to get a pic of it.
I watched it turn blood-red.
When I had the camera on the tripod,
I needed a spotter's scope to find the moon.
When I held the camera to my eye,
I took pix of the moon, but nothing came out.
I realized that it was hopeless to try and get a pic of the moon, with this lens, but hey, ya never know...

Neat site Joan Lee. As a Kerry supporter, it's been very lonely here in E Texas - we've a lot of X-friends though!! That's the only positive thing I can say.

When building our home here - a timber wolf came by occasionally at the start of construction. I named him 'Amadeus'.

sumac,
Love those history lessons - the Celts were a hardy group and left us with some great artwork.

Hey, Danon, I've been trying to make a rhyme out of the bits and pits you mentioned yesterday.

There once was a bit on my 'puter
Who wanted to be a jazz dude(r)
Climbed into the drive
And went for a ride
That bit's now a pit with Ry Cooder.

Glad that some of us got to see that fantastic moon. JeanBean, it was very hard to photograph in the dark!!!

Clicked.

Danon,
South Carolina was lonely indeed. It is a tad better here in North Carolina.
