I don't think that a single person in Boston got to see the eclipse. If you don't understand why, you're not a baseball fan. The Red Sox are actually the world champions this morning! For the first time since 1918. Most Bostonians are still in a euphoric shock.

joan_lee, way cool site!

jeanbean, well I hope the pix came out ok. With no lighting in the area,
all that was visible were the trees, the sky, and the moon. One third of the moon was silver, so with any luck, the red tone may be visible.
Keeping fingers crossed.

sumac, thanks for the celtic info. Found the following site with links of spooky halloween happenings.

Danon, don't feel like the lone ranger Smile Moved from the bay area of San Francisco to the conservative hills of the Sierra's. Talk about culture shock! Surprised that now many of the people who were gung ho with the current administration, are now having second thoughts.
There is a God!

Merry Andrews ~ Hurrah for Boston!

Thanks, Stradee. Nice pics... we thought there were times that the moon looked like a giant eyeball. <Kinda scary for Halloween!>

Ooooh, Beth. Tell us what you decide on.

I was going to be an unmade bed, piff, but I'm thinking a pirate queen might be better as I've got a meeting at lunch. Not a hugely formal meeting, but I don't think I want to be sitting in a restaurant in a sheet with pillows and p.j's pinned to it.

I've got bits for these two (including a huge curly black wig - and a t-shirt that looks like the bustier top of the sepia one)

You'll be a perfect Lady Pirate. Wish you lived nearby... I have some awesome temporary tattoos that would go with the look.

Can you sing "The Pirate King" song?

"Oh, better far to live and die,
under the brave black flag I fly,
then play the sanc-ti-mon-i-ous part
with a pirate 'ead and a pirate 'eart. <slap thigh>

Away to the bleeding world go you...
where pirates all are well-to-do,
But I'll be true to the song I sing,
and live & die a pi-i-i-i-rate king!

Hi all,
Haven't said much lately but have been clickin.
Gorgeous pic of the moon. Drats, I missed it, and it was sooo clear! We were on Maui during the last solar eclipse, just by coincidence, but couldn't see a thing because of the cloud cover.

eBeth, I was looking at old Halloween photos and saw one of my old costumes-- easy to make. I picked up a lab coat at the Thrift Store and a bunch of rubber insects and creepy crawlies from the House of Humor. I attached them all to the coat by stitching or gluing. Then I teased my hair out, used eyeliner on my lips and lip liner on my eyes and made a pretty decent "mad scientist'. I stuck little fake spiders in my hair and even stuck one on my forehead. Put worms crawling out of my pockets, etc. It was a lot of fun and now is always ready for the next Halloween.
But I don't think you could throw it together for tomorrow.

Congrats to the Red Sox fans.

ehBeth,
I had so many suggestions for you and suddenly my modem connection failed miserably in it's attempt to stay connected. - - -

You believe that???

Well, all of the above is true except I had only three suggs.

1. A Rutabagayeti
2. A Samoan Queen in a lava-lava.
3. I forgot, except it was the best one of all !!!!!!!!

Not really, three was my agreeing that your idea of the Pirate Queen was great....

Oh, a bit of trivia=
Anyone remember Redd Foxx's recording with the SUGG SOAP segment ?? I know, I know, it was a long time ago.......... But, it was funny.

Still is ..........

The moon looked pretty spectacular <photo from Reuters>

Cool costumes, ehBeth!

Check out Ann Bonny <a real woman pirate of the caribbean> You probably wouldn't wear the garb, but the bio an interesting account of a woman pirates life.

http://www.geographia.com/bahamas/annebonny.htm

Another suggestion for a pirates outfit is a long beige skirt and peasant blouse - dressed up with boostier <did i spell that right?> or you can lace
ribbon through eyelets <sewn on the material of the blouse> You might try wrapping a scarf around the brim of the wig also. Smile

I think ehBeth needs an eye patch, too... maybe just a long piece of black silk?
